2400 a curse or a boon?

i had the exact same situation: 2350 junior year, retook it senior year and got a 2400. i sent both, and got in. good luck!

that was very good analysis lof, and i completely agree with you.

but we can also think about it this way:

why would harvard prefer a lower score over a higher one?
they wouldn't

since you already have the 2400 you should definitely send it in.
in fact, the relevant decision was made at the time you decided to retest.

at that time, you decided that the value of having a score higher than 2350 was worth more to you than the time it would take to retest. since you did in fact make that decision, you should absolutely send in your 2400 now that you have it.

its a very impressive score, certainly nothing to be ashamed of :-)

and as people have said, 92% of people get rejected from harvard, so that fact that a far lower percentage of 2400s get rejected (rumor seems to say 25%) means that a 2400 is an advantage not a disadvantage.

Boon, of course.

Higher scores are always better, for every single applicant. I would never have advised a student to retake a 2350, but now that it's done...higher scores are always better.

boon. I honestly cant see why a perfect score would hurt your chances. They may think that your a bit overzealous but I dont think that your score would in any way hurt your chances if you are a well qualified applicant in other respects (essays, recs, GPA, ecs, etc).

PS: I totally get where your coming from though. Last year some senior with perfect SAT and SAT subject test scores, along with a perfect IB score (45) got rejected from Harvard...but then again he was an pompous toerag and I guess that reflected somewhere in his app...so as long as your not like him...:)
