2400 but a lower GPA?

Hello,
My friend had a question which I found quite interesting, so I thought I would ask you all as this community is intelligent. This is just a hypothetical situation. Say a person received a 2400 on their SAT's, but had a 3.5-3.7 GPA [not amazingly low, but fairly low for the high end schools] unweighted, and say a 4.1/4.2 weighted.

What would their chances be at getting into a good school. I am sure ivies would be out of the question because they are extremely selective and turn down near perfect applicants, but how about, say Georgetown University. (My personal favorite school. High ranking but not ivy status.)

Would this actually possibly work against the applicant? Would the college admissions actually believe that the person was smart, but lazy, and therefore is not a good candidate? Or is his/her GPA satisfactory enough that maybe this score will push them over the edge?

Sorry for asking a hypothetical, I just found it interesting.
Thanks!

lol, that’s actually a pretty good question. I want to know too.

The GPA factor can depend on the school. Is the school well ranked and has grade deflation? Are AP/honors courses extremely restricted?

Personally I think the person would have a pretty good chance at Top 15 and down schools. This of course will depend on their EC’s and recs. If they get really good recs or EC’s, then who knows?
