Low GPA but High SAT? How badly will this impact me?

Same thing with low grade but high AP/SAT II score.
(Ex: 3.7 gpa, 2300 SAT or B in the class, 5/ 750+ on the exam)

Will college admissions think I'm lazy?
Would it actually be safer to intentionally bomb my exams and a lower score so colleges don't look down on my poor GPA (poor for the scores I got)

This worries me. I have a downward trend in my grades too. I've gotten 4 B's so far, if I get straight A's from now I will only have a 3.78.

I wouldn’t call a 3.78 a bad GPA. Assuming you have a good class rank they will assume there is grade deflation. What is your SAT score?

I haven’t gotten it back yet but I felt really confident with how I did

Our class ranking system is very strange; it’s based on unweighted GPA. My rank is something like 30/400, I’m not sure. But three other people also have my rank.

Man you better count your blessings. I would do many illegal things to get a 3.78…

There are schools giving full tuition waivers for 3.5 GPA and high SAT scores. Why would you ever bomb a test?

Sorry, not trying to say that 3.78 is bad. It’s just kind of low in comparison to a high SAT score like 2300.
If it helps, I got 218 on my PSAT.

As for another example, I got a B in APUSH but an 5 on the exam

Based on what you have said it seems that you just go to a rigorous school. Schools won’t view as lazy, you’re fine.

What Us do you want to attend?

…I would cut off an arm for a 3.78. No joke.

My kid got into U of Chicago with similar stats this year (EA with merit aid).

I’m guessing top tier schools like Penn and Brown, definitely Stanford are kind of out of the question?

Penn might be within reach. And Brown is not all about GPA or test scores. Stanford probably is out of reach. I mean, Penn & Brown are reaches because they are reaches for almost everyone. But they are not out of reach, IMHO.
