anyone on here going to the 24th-25th orientation???

Yep, I'm going that weekend.

good, i'm not the only one going lol

Appointees evvvvvverywhere...They serve good food when y'all come :D

Yay for escorting appointees. Mine this week got lucky as she got to sleep on a bed (as opposed to a cot or the floor). Perhaps I'll see one or two of your around - as Hornetguy can attest to, I don't bite!

Yeah, I might see one of y'all, but I'm not hosting anybody. :)

Just a heads up, I checked the weather for the 23rd-25th in the springs area and Sunday the high is 70, Monday the low is 26 and high is 39 with a 60% chance of rain/snow, and Tuesday the low is 29 and the high is 50.

after attending the appointee orientation...i have decided to decline my offer of appointment and accept my offer of admission to BC. the orientation was very good, however i was not impressed by the academics (my expectations might have been too high) and by the students' participation in class. The academy is a great place and a fine institution...it wasn't easy to pass up the appointment...but 10 hours of traveling helped clear my mind so i could make a good decision. Good luck to all of you in the class of 2010!! and thank you to anyone who helped me on this site!

I can't help but laugh that you think, after observing the academics for one day, you can make an accurate determination of the level of intensity. Further, that you possess the audacity to call the academic level insufficient when the school's engineering programs, just to name a few, are consistently ranked in the top 20, and often top 10, in the nation.

I'm curious the level of academic achievement to which you hold yourself. Surely someone able to make such an asssessment as you did would have scores and a GPA far exceeding that of us mere mortals, placing yourself in at least the top 10% of the Academy, if not higher.

I don't care why you didn't go to the Academy, but don't try to pass it off on an "easy" academic philosophy.

You saw C4C classes. I thought the Chem class was a joke. But I didn't let that deceive me, I know its more difficult in higher level classes. I will try to knock out early classes with validation, then I can hit the hard ones. Try to think a little further ahead....

caddyshack233, I want to hear about how many hours you take this year at the college you go to. I bet it isn't 18.5...And that isn't even considering all the military stuff.

Also, you guys might be smart, but don't be disappointed if you don't "knock out early classes", there are some smart dudes here that didn't validate anything.

By the way, the guy who is #1 in 2006 is in my squad, he is a genius, but has no life. All he does is study.

well thanks! I don't remember calling the academic program insufficient or easy...I said i was not impressed with what I saw and heard from cadets I talked to...granted it takes a long time to fully understand the academics of an institution, i only had 2 days....but like i said before...my expectations might have been too high...and that is my fault. By no means was I trying to bash the academy at all...I know they have one of the best engineering programs in the country..It's just I am not an engineering major (or any kind of science major). I saw all c4c classes and core classes and I just did not see what I had hoped to see...Sorry to offend any of you here in the forum...I guess I came off as bashing the academy...i did not intend for that to be the case. good luck usafa class 2010

I'm not offended, as my confidence in their academic program lay deeper than unfounded suppositions.

Caddyshack, if can you clear up your private message space, I'd like to write a reply to you. Thanks.

Caddyshack is entitled to their opinion, as are the rest of you. Please be respectful, even when others' opinions differ from your own.

I can say that in spite of what you may have observed here, the academics are rigorous. However, the bottom line I got from the posts was that the Academy isn't right for you, and that's one of the purposes of orientation. Go where you want to go as it's your decision.

Just to count a few of the other posts, think of itthis way: Would you rather have someone choose to not come here (for whatever reason), or to have that person come, take the slot of someone who really wanted to be here, and then not finish?

Like I said in my post, I don't care why he didn't decide to come to USAFA. I'll also add that I'm glad he's not coming for the reasons you stated.

However, I'm not going to listen to someone rationalize their decision by saying the academics aren't rigorous enough.

thank you for your concern, I believe I have made the correct decision overall. good luck class of 10'!

On the Boston College board Caddyshack posted:
"at BC: Management and Finance
after BC: Creative/Interpretive Dance...maybe a JD/MBA after that."

Sounds like the right decision as very few officers get an Interpretive Dance assignment. Too much competition.
