Orca, I think jugartenis was saying "anything past NM, AP and book awards are not important."

ohhhhhh thanks zogoto, i get it now lol. i thought meant book awards etc in the past hahaha

Sorry I didn't word that clearly enough- I meant that if it is substantially lower in quality than a book award or other major recoginition it shouldn't be on there. My bad.

no its ok, i feel better now, cause thats the only kind of stuff i have on there! lol i was scared for a sec.

I actually have like 40 lines...lol do you think I should try to cut it down or just send it in? It fits exactly on one page, size 11 times new roman font.

haha jeez 40 awards?!

^ I had about 30 or 40 awards from debate when I applied to Tufts ED I, they didn't seem to mind at all. :)

Good luck to you.

"national merit semifinalist (this is kind of a dumb award in my opinion, since all you do is take a test for it, and the test is basically the SAT, which is already on the application)"

Based on what you've indicated, this should go first. While it's common in the HPYS pool, it still is an important award. Just because your SAT scores are high doesn't mean that your PSAT scores were high.

If you're getting academic research published, that's a big deal as is being published in a professional newspaper or magazine. "Accepted for publication" is better than "submitted" as anyone can submit.

"-Top 10 presentations at a summer program I went to" Since those awards are in-house, they don't sound as impressive as the others. Saying "got 10 awards for things ranging from XX to XX at X summer program" is enough

Regional competitions count higher than school ones. State competitions are even higher as are national ones (which is why NM semifinalist is a big deal).

NMS is something like 6th or 7th on my list, because things like Siemens Westinghouse and ISEF go before it.

And the summer program was RSI. It gives some extra credibility to my being there, since when I got into RSI, I didn't really think I should have made it in.

And is getting something like the highest on the AMC 12 in your state a bigger deal that NM? NM Semifinalist is "national," while the AMC thing is only state-wide. Right now, NM is 6th or so on the list, and AMC is 10th or something. Should it be so?

Thanks NSM.

anyone agree that honor roll is completely useless as an "award"? especially if you rank 2nd out of 650?

yeah stanford's not that hard from cali, well in comparison from westchester, ny (where im from), where people get rejected from stanford and go to harvard. my friend goes to school in cali, 50% of her graduating class goes to stanford..thats jus monsterous...i feel that the class fills up with sports recruits considering stanford is a monster when it comes to sports.
