I believe that VMI and Davidson are the 2 smallest schools in Division 1. Holy Cross is significantly larger (although certainly still a small liberal arts school), so this makes the % even more interesting. It shows Holy Cross to be an athletic place that offers opportunities to would be scholar athletes.

(If you want to see really high percentages of athletes to general population, check out some of the NESCAC Div III schools. They are up around 30%).

Fourteen Holy Cross varsity athletic teams have received Division I Academic Progress Rate public recognition awards from the NCAA. These teams posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. The public recognition awards are part of the broad Division I academic reform effort.

Holy Cross’ 14 total teams to be honored tied for the eighth most in the nation. Other schools with at least 14 teams receiving public recognition awards were Yale (28), Brown (21), Dartmouth (21), Penn (19), Harvard (18), Princeton (18), Bucknell (17) and Notre Dame (14).
