27 Act

Ok i got a 27 with no studying whatsoever...but i need a 28-29. Do u think studying with a review book would help alot or is it pointless?

Studying won't hurt, or it shouldnt. I used Barrons and on my first time got a 29 by just doing some of their practice tests and mini quizes. I'd probably recomend it, I did all my studying a week prior to the test, so it won't take up to much of your summer.

I got a 27 with studying so lucky you. I would say you will benifit by just retaking the test because you have already seen the format. Studting will really help too.

^ most of it depends on how difficult the test is during your testing date. This is why i think standardized tests are retarded. All the tests are different.

hey excel do you know what test date the ACT is the easiest?

lol i would also like to know that answer

its all curved.

I have heard June but I dont thin kit matters. It all depends on the type of test you have

It seems like this test date (or maybe newer ones in general) had a stricter curve than previous tests.

yeah i'm in the same boat..i got a 27 w/out studying, but i'm aiming for at least a 31...any suggestions?

Twenty8, why do you think this one had a stricter curve? Have you gotten your test information release already?

I did get my scores, and compared to how I was performing with the red book, my english and reading scores each dipped down a few points. Oh well, I'm still content with what I got.

April I did no studying and got a 25. For the June test I took 2 days off work and studied and got a 29. It's very possible...

i was thinking about when a good time to take the test was with the curve and everything, and i figured that by the last test, most of the strong test takers will have all ready received their ideal score. also, many students who just completed their sophomore year are taking it now. so, maybe the curve will be lowered by the june test. if anyone knows anything about this, feel free to set me straight.

I think you're talking about the upcoming September test (not June), am I right, Jeff? If so, I was wondering about this myself. Right now, I'm planning on traveling 6 hours out of state to take the September test. However, I was actually thinking the opposite from you. To me, it seems like the over-achiever types are more likely to travel to take an early test, thus making the curve harder.

that is probably true, but i'm thinking that since the June test has five tests prior to that date (for Juniors), the high scorers have plenty of time to achieve their goal and won't even need to bother with the sixth time. the procrastinators that finally realize that they need to take the test at the end of the junior year are the ones that will be taking it in June.

Kids,
The score conversion is already set long before you test, so the population that tests on the same test date as you has absolutely no effect on the "curve". See numerous recent threads addressing this topic.

Thanks for the info Mrs. Ferguson. I just thought since you get your scores along with the percentile, that the number score is based off the percentile. But then why do people always argue about which test is the easiest/hardest if the scales are already set before the people take the test to make them standard?
