29 on the ACT?

hey there guys, i just took the october act, and i got a 29 (32 E, 31 M, 26 R, 25 S)
my sat math score was 760, but my reading and writing scores from the sat were pretty mediocre (worse than the act)
is there any way that one can say that the admissions officers will look at my math from the sat and my reading and writing (english) from the act? (because according to them, they want to see a representation of our maximum potential)
if, with a 3.9 gpa and pretty good ECs, i apply to wharton ED next year, will i have any chance of getting in?

I thought I ran into a wrong forum.

bumppppppppp

We have no idea if you’ll have a chance of getting into Wharton ED. Why don’t you ask in that forum?

Try the penn forum :)

i meant brown ED, haha
sorry for the typo :P

Admittance Rate
36: 49%
33-35: 19%
29-32: 9%
26-28: 9%

Of the class of 2012, these were the average admission rates. ED and RD are supposed to not give you a comparative advantage in admissions, so with only your test score, you have about a 9% chance. Obviously, this is a poor statistic because behind the acceptance letters (and even the rejections) were interesting essays, activities, GPA/schedule, interview etc. These will change your chance of being accepted, as the ACT is just one component of the application. A low score won’t neccesarily kill you and a perfect score won’t necessarily get you in. But, on average, people with a 29 were accepted about 9% of the time. Hope that helps.

Seeing your GPA, I don’t know how good a 3.9 is relative to your school (weighted or unweighted?), so I can’t really say much. A 3.9 UW will put you in a good position if that is UW. Also, the rigor of your curiculum (if AP classes are offered) is very important. Most applicants at Brown probably have good EC’s too.

I hope this helps. Even after reading a complete application, not many of us here could judge whether you could get in. So from this little piece of data, we can’t really say anything except that you will be a competitive applicant. Bumping up your ACT score wouldn’t hurt, but it won’t keep you out.

bump, anyone else?

I had a 29 on my ACTs and a 1910 on my SATS and low 600s on my SAT IIs and I got in  Try your best, it’s possible!

Try taking it again. I know someone who jumped 5 in the composite score taking the act a second time.

ILurveBrown, how’d you get int with such low scores?
did you play any sports? was there something unique about you?

I got in with a 29 ACT also, 1990 SATs and 500’s and 600s on the subject tests. Not a varsity athlete. Not underrepresented. I just expressed myself on the application, and they saw the fit.

Yeah, test scores aren’t everything. I got in with a 25 ACT 1750 SAT and 500/600 SAT IIs.
