2B/2HB Pencil Dilemma.

I just realised that I used 2B pencils as opposed to 2HB pencils on my last SAT and I’m really freaking out. The scores are already delayed in my country due to reports of cheating and I don’t want my paper to be even more of an issue. Is it okay to use 2B pencils? Is the machine going to be unable to read my test?

Technically, no, because mechanical pencils are not supposed to be used at all.

The machine should be able to read the sheet.

@skieurope I didnt use a mechanical pencil. If I meant mechanical pencil I would have said mechanical pencil. I used a normal pencil with 2B written on it as opposed to 2HB.

Sorry, usually here when people refer to lead, they’re referring to mechanical pencils and use #1 vs. #2 when referring to wood pencils. Regardless, the scantron should still be able to score your sheet.

I believe @skieurope meant the scantron WILL be able to read your test in Post #1, not agreeing with your “unable” question. And I agree. Scantrons haven’t really required #2 pencils for a while but they don’t want to have to worry about extremes and different colors in grading.

^ Correct; that is what I meant.
