How does 2nd choice major work in the admission process?
my first choice was mechanical engineering which is really hard to get into, so if should I still count on getting for my second choice or is it just there as a formality?
You are considered for first choice major; if rejected, then second choice; if rejected then Division of General Studies. You can ultimately be denied admission if all three reject and getting second choice or even Division of General Studies is not a formality.
You mention second choice “undeclared,” and I am not sure what you mean. If you meant the undeclared major in engineering, then you will be considered for that if rejected mechanical engineering, and then if also rejected for the undeclared admission to engineering, you will be considered for Divison of General Studies. If you meant you chose as your second major the undeclared major for the Division of General Studies, then you will be considered for that second with no third option.
Alright, yeah I put undeclared so I’ll be considered for division of general studies for my secondchouce withno third.
So let’s just say someone applied undeclared as their first choice with no secondor third and they had the same stats as me. Would they have a bump over me since it was their first choice and my second?
You are trying to make it more complex than it is.That undecided in DGS is your second choice does not mean you will be evaluated differently for admission into DGS from a like student who has it as first choice.
okay, got it. I just figured that someone who puts DGS as first choice and write the essay may be considered over someone who’s got it on second choice just because they needed a second choice. I understand now. Thanks
