Hi. While I've heard that the William and Mary transfer acceptance rate was relatively high(around 40-45%), I was wondering how much this changes when considering only the freshmen pool of transfers. I was accepted into William and Mary this fall but decided to go to different University of around equal level/prestige, but am slightly regretting this. Assuming I receive a decent GPA at my first semester here, what are the chances of getting into William and Mary for the Spring 2015 Semester? I realize that housing is an issue, but does that make a great difference in acceptance rate between freshmen applicants and others? Are certain transfers prioritized over others? Any input would be greatly appreciated, no matter how incomplete. Thanks in advance :D

I know nothing about freshman transfer rates but do know that they have a transfer event this coming Friday, October 24 in the afternoon. Here is the link where you can get more info and register:

Also, the application deadline for spring transfers is November 1.

interesting. thanks i’ll look into it.

We are limited by housing availability in our ability to admit second semester transfer freshmen. If no spaces are available in freshmen residence halls, then we will not be able to admit any students who apply even if they are very qualified. It’s unfortunate but we believe the on-campus residential experience is so critical to the W&M experience that we don’t want to admit transfers and not provide them the opportunity to share in that part of life at W&M.
