3.2 UW/4.2 W with 2400 SAT and 36 ACT Scores: Do I have a Chance?

Hello,

Due to personal & family reasons, my freshman year was not a very pretty year. I had a 1.6 GPA that year. However in my sophomore and junior year, I have significantly improved my grades and brought it towards a decent 3.7/3.8 average. This is all unweighted. I have took various honors courses in all fields as well as took AP's senior year.

Overall my ending GPA will be in the low-mid 3's. Will my upwards trend be enough to get into NYU or maybe even Columbia considering that I have some killer extra-curriculars.

It is also very important to mention that I have a perfect SAT and ACT score taking these exams on the FIRST try. I have studied very hard over the summers and gone over my schoolwork.

Some extra curricular activities I have are:
Computer Building (I build and sell computers for the school and I am the President of the Computer Engineering Club. All proceeds go to the Red Cross Foundation.)

Music (I sing, play guitar, bass, synthesizer, and tour around the towns nearby for gigs. I've won awards in talent shows and placed in competitions. I also do live and professional recording as a hobby.)

I have a lot of work experience considering the fact that I buy and sell actively in the stock market under my father's name. I have also worked since I was 6 at my family's restaurants and today I manage all three of them. (Hiring, firing, finance, taxes, inventory, design & decor, service, etc.)

I've played 3 years of tennis (played in a private team), 3 years off soccer (one year on the school varsity team, rest on private teams for my township), as well as ran track for a year (in school).

I hope this is sufficient information to enable readers to grant me some valuable information on what is the best thing I could do. Thank you for taking the time out of your day just to read my post. :)

It doesn’t seem plausible that you solely manage your family’s source of income, if you are exaggerating, I would recommend re-wording.

Yeah, I agree with OP. If this is all legit, I think a remarkable essay can save you. You do have the scores…

You have a shot, but by no means are those spectacular EC’s

Given that you are low-income and you do have those scores, I believe you will be fine. The circumstances for freshman year can yield a spectacular essay, which would give you a wonderful pull. And I think the significant upward trend is an indicator that something was indeed off.
