I will have three IB classes, 2 honors under my belt by the time I'm out of high school.

Is there any chance for me to get into a program?

Thanks a lot for your help.

What is your class rank?

...There is a chance... but honestly, a 3.4 is a little low, unless your recs and extra curriculars are amazing.

I honestly don't know what my class rank is. I don't find out until senior year.

Do you think you can provide more info? For example, tell us your EC's, SAT scores, etc.

well my SAT score is a 1850 and my ACT is a 33. So I'm sending my ACT.

EC wise:

Natural Helper-Grade 10 and 11- Helps students cope with
problems (Selection-based process)

Astronomical Society-Grade 9,10,11-Building 2 8-inch
Newtonian Telescopes w/ Equatorial Mounts

Sports Med Club-Discuss about Medicine Grade 10

JV Tennis -Grade 9 and 10 Grade 9 - 7/24 Grade 10 5/25
(Rank)

Hospital Volunteer (Since Dec. 2005)

Volunteer Trainer (Since April 2006)

Library Volunteer (Since Jan. 2006)

Job Shadowed an Emergency Pediatric Physician.

Biology Club (Grade 11)

Physics Club (Grade 11) Student Program Manager

Chemistry Club (Grade 11)

Ping Pong Club (Grade 11) Secretary

It seems flaky, but it's the best I have.

If you take SATIIs, make sure to do well on them.

Do I need to take the SAT IIs?

Some require them, some don't. If I were you, I would try to take chem and the IIC.

Hm..I think I might do that.

Bump please..

heres the thing after applying to a bunch of program and finally geting into them heres my conclusion.
The whole point of the program is to get smart kids who otherwise wouldnt consider a university (mostly) That said academics are the single most important thing. That doesnt mean that u cant get in. But most colleges in the first step weed out average/poor/above average kids on the basis of scores. The other stuff comes in later.

Keep your grades up and try to do something out of the ordinary for extra curriculars that way you can makes your application stand out from the pack.

where do u want to go? u might not get into the top most rated med schools, but i think u might have a chance at UMKC maybe, I know someone from my school who had a 3.9 W and only like 1850 on his sat's and still got an interview. He then got wait listed into the program, ended up going to davis though. I think if you just get some good ec's before you apply u might have a solid chance.

O yea and make sure u write outstanding essay's, those help. =)

O and 3.4, is that weighted or unweighted?

unweighted...it's not the best :(

As to where I want to go, I just want to know where I actually may have a decent shot at an acceptance. Nothing like HPME or PLME, but perhaps Drexel or Virginia Commonwealth?

Anyone else please?

3.4 looks worse in combo with ACT = 33, it tells that you had ability but did not work hard at school. My D. got into 3 programs but she was rejected from other 3, most not top rated at all. She was top of her class with 4.0 unweighted. She also had ACT=33, took it once. She had over 300 hours working in Med. research lab. Competition is fierce.

are you an IBDC?
that might help.
