Hello, right now I am in 11th grade, and in 10th grade I did very poorly, recieving 4 C’s in total for the year, all in AP Classes and Honors (HPC and AP CompSci), but this year, I have pulled a 4.33 W this semester with 4 AP’s, and am trying to get all A’s next semester. If this happens, do I have a legitimate chance of getting into SJSU in the very competitive computer science program? Also, I live in the Bay Area, so would I be considered a local student?

SJSU does not consider legacy so your brother as an Alumni has no bearing on your chances.

SJSU admits by eligibility index and major. You first need to calculate your CSU capped weighted GPA at the end of Junior year.
Once you have your CSU capped weighted GPA (8 semesters of UC approved Honors/AP/IB or DE courses taken 10-11th grades) you can plug your GPA into the Eligibility index calculation.
(CSU Capped weighted GPA x 800) + (SAT Math + EBRW)
SJSU posts a list of EI thresholds by major each year. For 2019 admits, the EI threshold for Computer Science was 4675. The EI does fluctuate from year to year so the threshold could change when you apply next year.
Keep up the good work and definitely apply to several schools.
SJSU local admission area is as follows:
For freshmen, you are considered a “local” applicant if you will graduate from a high school in Santa Clara County.

Hi @Gumbymom ,
Can you pls let me know how to calculate EI for Computer Science Major using ACT score? The capped CSU GPA is 4.29. ACT Composite is 35 (Math 36, Reading 36, English 35, Science 34). TIA
