My daughter has applied to SJSU for fall 2019–> CS major. Need little help in understanding EI calculation for an impacted major in College of Engineering(COE).
My daughter’s CSU GPA is 4 and she is local Santa Clara High school graduate(Private High School). To my understanding, being local to Santa Clara County I can add .20 to her current CSU GPA. (Please correct me if I am wrong)
Her ACT Score is 31(English 32, Math 30, Reading 33 and Science 30)----Converted ACT to SAT score is 1400
SJSU College of Engineering(COE) = (CSU GPA 4 + .20 Santa Clara Local applicant Preference) * 800 + 1400 SAT Score = (4+.20 * 800) + 1400 = 3360 + 1400 = 4760.
If this calculation is correct, what are her chances getting into CS major for fall 2019!!?
@Gumbymom curious minds want to know - so if someone has an index greater than 4725 does that make them an auto-admit? Or simply just eligible for direct admit? Conversely if a kid was say at 4700 (below the index) does that mean they are automatically out?
@ProfessorPlum168: The EI threshold can change from year to year depending upon the stats of each in-coming Freshman applicant class and I have seen it vary by up to 300 points between admission years. Meeting or exceeding the EI threshold for a major based on the prior year’s EI, means an applicant is competitive but not a definite Auto Admit. Conversely, not meeting the EI threshold from the prior year does not automatically eliminate an applicant from getting accepted into the major. The EI Threshold will be recalculated each year and could go down below 4725.
