I have a friend who has a 3.89 (3.9 rounded) cumulative GPA but only received cum laude (not magna or summa). Yet I've heard others receiving magna/summa with far lower GPAs. How is this possible?

Doesn’t sound possible…perhaps the 3.9 isn’t accurate?

“Selection is based not on GPA alone, but on the breadth, depth and high quality of academic achievement, departmental recommendations, and outstanding academic work beyond that which is required for the degree.” Any college can have its own specs for various honors. Often on their web sites.
