3 B's?

LOL, umm. PM = pre-med. LOL.

And I’m just really hoping I’ll find a school where I can excel as a pre-med. HAHA. That’s all…

yes Asians are in a worst case scenario here in terms of grades, but that could be b/c they are too much into their grades and piling up on ec’s to seem unique (which any person would do regardless of ethnicity). You’re home salary may hurt you, but you can make an advantage for yourself by spending some of it for a good cause…lol. Don’t worry about it, just be passionate for what you are interested in; which you indicated is medicine. :)

okay i am a sophomore in high school. i am about to take my 1st semester final exams and am going to try to do my best but i am expecting to unfortunately get 1-2 B’s, probably 2. i also have 1 B from freshman year. I take all pre-ap/AP/gt courses and one of my B’s this year is in AP world history, a very advanced course for a sophomore.

as for test scores: i plan to get perfect/near perfect standardized test scores and i hope to be a national merit scholar or finalist.

as for EC’s:
-I am on my school’s dance team, and i plan hold an office as a senior (president or VP) -I am on student council and plan to be on executive board senior year.
-I am on the varsity lacrosse team
-I am/plan to be in Freshman, sophomore, junior and senior girls (spirit groups)
-I am in Business Professionals of America and Academy of Finance and plan to hold an office in at least one or both
-I plan to have taken all 5 levels of advanced Spanish offered (very rare in my hs)
-My friend and i started a charity at our school involved with the march of dimes and teenage girls with terminal illnesses

I go to a very highly ranked public school and i am white. All i have ever wanted is to go to stanford. do i have a chance? what should i do differently?

actually it’s been empirically proving that having exactly 3 Bs is a huge dealbreaker at stanford, tough luck

I just got in ea and I had three Bs sophomore year - there’s still hope :)

i also have had my share of B’s. 1 sophomore year, 2 junior year, and now 3 senior year.
honestly, i think that when it comes to great schools like stanford, where everybody has those great grades, they really focus a lot more on your ec’s and essays. those ARE what got me in. i was really really really passionate about ONLY 2 different activities, one sport, one club, and natlly ranked in both, committed most of my weekends traveling with them, etc,
also, i didn’t write my essays stereotypically-- i tried to showcase a sense of humor in my essays-- i made fun of myself, talked about my love of my little dog’s snout, about how i always lock myself out of my car, you know funny stuff like that. but i also had an underlying point on how that made me who I am. i didn’t try to sound “smart”, they already know that everyone applying is!! i just tried to sound like myself. (also, my ACT score was pretty good- 35, so i think that made up for my lacking GPA.)

gingerdaisys - 2 things to remember - they don’t have your senior grades yet, and you are a recruited athlete according to your other admission post. Your scores are great and grades definitely in the range - essays sound good an interesting, but you are hooked. D had 4.0 unweighted full IB with double science 6 APs, etc, etc, all SAT I and 2 mid 700s, 2 passionate activities, I thought great quirky essays, national team member athletics which took all time, but not a recruited sport which drops it to the level of a very interesting EC. You do deserve to be there according to all measures, but be honest with prospective candidates about what tipped it over the top.

keep in mind that transferrring is often much more difficult than freshman admissions, as well, scholarships dwindle down significantly after your freshman year. stanford does not evaluate your freshman (or 8th grade) grades.
