3 Classes or 4 Classes for First Quarter?

Do most people take three or four classes for their first quarter?

Do you think this schedule is okay for my first quarter? Or is it too hard?

Chem 4A
Math 20C
MCWP 40
LTSP 2C

And is it bad to have two finals on the same day?

Thanks for your help :)

Most people take 4, but it’s up to you. I would definitely sign up for those 4, and if you find it too hard after a couple weeks, you can drop one with nothing against you. It looks like a good schedule to me though. Also, I think it’s fine having 2 finals on the same day assuming you study a little bit throughout the quarter. If you try to cram everything on the last day, it might not be as pretty, so don’t slack off!

I took 3, and still felt overwhelmed first quarter. Depends on the person and your time management for sure. Sign up for 4 and drop one if necessary.

I would TRY not to have 2 finals the same day because it’s stressful as f but it’s doable.

I’m planning on taking the following classes:

Chem 6AH
Math 20C
MCWP 40
LIFR 1D/1DX
Freshman seminar

Am I killing myself here? o.o

Oops, I meant chem 6A, but thank you guys for your help :)

Hey kiwi what’s your major? Seems like we’re taking similar classes.

^I don’t think you’re killing yourself.

human biology :)

whats a freshman seminar?

^It’s a really simple 1 unit class that’s just for fun (and 1 unit I guess). Here’s the list of the ones offered this quarter.

[UCSD :: Undergraduate Seminar Programs](<a href=“UCSD :: Undergraduate Seminar Programs”>UCSD :: Undergraduate Seminar Programs)

^oh my god, there are so many of those that I want to take >.< dammit. is taking two a quarter too much?

oh thanks CC dad.

for fun eh? so does that mean it dosnt have quizzes and finals? like an easy A? i mean, they look really interesting but it will be a plus if its an easy A class.

Most are easy A’s.

Some just hand out A’s as long as you attend all meetings. A few have cursory-level quizzes as a means of ensuring you’re actually learning something.

@samedifference
2 a quarter isn’t too much if you are interested in both seminar topics. they’re usually just P/NP and really quite fun so go for it, if your schedule allows.

Chem 6A (4)
Math 20B (2)
DOC 1 (4)
MEA 9 (4)

and think about LISP 1D/1DX (5) should I take or no?

^No 10 char

@samedifference

I took 3 last quarter, so no. They shouldn’t add much to your work load.

@xxmsp91

Mine never had any quizzes or finals. Some just had really short assignments. So yes, it’s an easy “A” except that they’re P/NP so it’s an easy P.

My planned schedule: …
WCWP 10A
Math 20C
CSE 8A/8AL
Mus 114

My major concern is that upper div music class ><". I mean seriously, taking an upper div course on my first quarter of college (it doesn’t have any prereqs). But I do have a reason…I think lol:

So my 2 planned AS’s so far is gonna be Psych and Music (Each AS is 1 lower div and 2 upper div courses). I don’t have to take a lower div psych class b/c of AP credit, so that leaves me with only upper div for psych. Most upper div psych classes need upper div standing, so I obviously can’t start on my psych AS as of yet. Which leaves me with the Music AS to start on. I want to take Mus 1A because I think that class is like super basic music theory. I think I can ace that class with little effort cuz I played piano for several years. But Mus 1A conflicts with my comp sci course, so I gotta wait til next quarter or something to take it. Soooooo that leaves me with only upper div music courses. And Mus 114 doesn’t have any prereqs at all.

Haha sorry for that long explanation, I bet few people would even bother to read that >>, But that is why I’m planning to take Mus 114…unless someones says that it isn’t a good idea.

But I can’t help but feel this schedule is too rigorous for an incoming freshman. What do you guys think? Are there any other options that I overlooked?

^I think that’s fine. You can take Mus 114.

Thanks again Kings!

Does anybody by any chance know anything about Mus 114 or the possible teachers teaching it? It seems that the teacher for the upcoming quarter is still unknown. All I know about this course is a 2 sentence description. :/
