How sure are you of that, UCLAri? We are 100% sure there are viruses or electrons because we have physically seen them. However, evolution, we have not physically seen occur. Even scientists are not a 100% sure if or how evolution occurs. Whatever, there's no use in arguing this.

FredFredBurger,

We've seen speciation occur, and we have many very complete fossil records.

What do you call antibiotic resistant bacteria, if not evolution?

I do not have all the answers and I am not the right person (by any stretch of the imagination) to argue this with. I'll just tell you this, there are many out there who would successfully debate you on this topic. Just like there are others who will successfully debate those who would beat you. Also, it really doesn't matter whether or not our candidates believe in evolution, we look for leadership in a leader not his or her religious views. And an argument over the exsistence of evolution is pretty much the same as an arguement over Affirmative Action-it'll do no good and no one will change his or her mind.

FredFredBurger,

Cutting edge biology and medical research depends, in many ways, on our ability to understand and appreciate evolutionary biology. The closed-minded almost anti-science thinking of our current presidential administration has limited stem-cell research in the US quite a bit, and hurt the US's ability to stay in the lead.

And we should care about more than just a leader's "leadership." Their views directly affect their policies, and so we should care.

The difference between this and a debate on AA is that AA is a nominal argument. It's a matter of opinion. Evolution is fact. This is more like arguing over whether or not we should concern ourselves with gravity when designing airplanes.

I think people decided one day not to believe in evolution in an effort to confound others the way they are confounded by those who don't believe in God. Then others decided that they don't believe in it because they are afraid that they will not be considered as devout as those who don't believe. Then others jumped on the bandwagon when they saw how many don't believe because numbers give validity to anything. Now the numbers are big enough that the politicians have to weigh in. I don't believe that those 3 men don't believe in evolution. They're caught up in what started as some form of "Oh yeah, well I don't believe in um um um EVOLUTION - so there!"
