3 math classes at once?

16 units total: 2 lower div math + 1 upper div math + 1 writing class

c'est possible?

Depends on you and which ones.

Which classes in particular?

Unless you’re an asian international student don’t do it

lol, thanks fortify…

&53 55 and 110. im signed up to take 53 and 110 next semester (my 54 prof said id be okay to take 110 without 55 first, but not to take any other upperdiv’s w/o 55 under my belt first). im not quite sure whether i can handle 55 as my 3rd math class, but im pretty sure i can juggle 53 and 110 without dying.

the only reason i want a 3rd math class is because im not going to get into this other 4 unit class (which has nothing to do with math), so im looking for a back up plan…and i kinda want to do something toward my majors since my sched will be pretty cramped for the next few semesters w/o summer school, so i want to make the most of next semester’s units.

It should be fine. Might be strenuous though, I can’t say for sure. I’m taking 4 chemistry courses now and it’s pretty rough…

But I’m still here! lol

Wow, 4 chemistry courses? Which ones? is very impressed

104A (inorganic), 112A (organic), 120A (physical), and 196, which is research but I do devote a lot of time to that when I’m not in lecture classes haha.

What year are you? If you’re a freshman, I don’t really see a reason why you would want to especially due to the lack of experience. It’d be very risky especially since you don’t want to your first year to have any bad grades. If you’re a sophomore/above and want to catch up, it’s possible, but potentially GPA-damaging. It could be done overall as long as the writing class isn’t too time-consuming and you set your priorities straight.

@spontaneity: very cool, if i decide to take the 3 math classes, then whenever im having a stressful day, im going to remember you and use that to motivate me :P

@ 187: next semester is my 4th semester here. ive accepted the fact that math classes here are rigorous and that my squeaky clean gpa will have to get dirty if i want to pursue a math degree. the thing is i dont really care about my gpa now as much as i did these past 3 semesters. i mainly wanted the highest gpa possible for when i applied haas, but now that applications are over, ill settle for a graduating gpa in the 3.3’s

Thanks crowslayer91. Good luck on finals!

You’ll be fine. Math 53 is just grunt work, calculating random integrals, and I have plenty of friends that took Math55 and Math110 at the same time and did just fine.

Be forewarned: Math 110 is going to be different from Math 54. The dynamic changes considerably, as 80% of the time you will be asked to prove something, not calculate something. Math55 is the only lower div class that really does this, so this will probably be new to you. That said, I have plenty of friends that took Math55 at the same time. It was hard for them for the first couple weeks, and they had to go to office hours and ask me about proof techniques. But they picked it up pretty quickly, and by first midterm had reached a reasonable level of comfort with writing proofs, and they’ll probably end up with similar grades to mine.

thanks for the input!
