I am going to apply ED to Dartmouth in a few days(!!!) I have 3.9/4.0, 33 ACT etc. I am unsure if I should list a 3 on my AP Physics 2 test on the common app from junior year. Other AP scores are 4s on World/US History. Is it not worth it to include it because it is low or should I just throw it out there anyway? Just wondering if this helps/hurts my chances, if it has any effect at all. Thanks in advance!!
I don’t know what the right answer is, but I have 2 questions that maybe will help you think it through: First, what grade did you get in the class? And second, if they see AP Physics 2 on your transcript, won’t they wonder where the AP score is? And if it isn’t there, won’t they assume you didn’t do well on it? So maybe a 3 is better than them assuming you didn’t even do THAT well! Honestly though, you should probably ask your guidance counselor for advice on this.
Personally, I say list any AP scores that are 3+, in part for the reasons mentioned above.
Our CC advised to self report only 4 and 5 scores for AP and 5, 6, and 7 for IB.
Many students who take the classes do not test, so it doesn’t raise a red flsd.
I think I’d go with listing only the 4s.
Dartmouth grants credit for that exam (Physics) for scores of 4 or 5. In my mind, it makes sense to report scores that the college will grant credit for, but not anything below. Like @gardenstategal said, many students take the class and not the exam.
^ Sure about that? I thought that they didn’t grant credit for any HS AP course. It is a consideration for placement, but no credit.
I should have clarified what I meant @Guanabana. On their site, while they do call it ‘credit,’ it’s not credit in the traditional sense of having advanced standing, and closer graduation date. It still stands that a 3 is not considered for placement.
Thank you all for your help!
