Hey, does anyone know Dartmouth's policy on AP scores? Can they be used for credit or advanced standing? I'm specifically interested in Calc AB/BC, English, Chemistry, and Euro/US History. Thanks!

They are generally used for advanced standing, I believe. I know that a 4 or 5 on Calc AB or BC will place you into Math 8 or Math 11, respectively. A 5 is required on the language or lit. tests (along with apparently a sufficiently high SAT verbal score) to place out of Writing 5.

I also believe that AP language tests may allow one to fulfill Dartmouth's language requirement, though you probably need to get a 5.

yay google

Thanks, guys. Excellent link, enzo!

I think that starting with the '10s you won't be able to place out of Writing 5.

I have a question about AP Spanish Credit.
I got 5 on AP Spanish language (didn't take SAT II).

From that AP Exemptions webpage, it says:
"Exemption from foreign language requirement".

Does that mean I don't need take any foreign language course? I already meet "foreign language requirement"?

Thanks

xanatos:

D hasn't yet made a decision on Writing 5 re the AP test -- possibly this summer.

Bulb, that is right. If you got a 5 on the Spanish AP you will not be required to take any language classes.

...but you should totally go on an FSP (foreign-study program) or LSA (language study abroad) anyways! They are definitely, definitely worth it and the D-Plan makes it so easy to go anywhere from New Zealand to South Africa to swanky European places like Barcelona and Prague.

Thank you for your response.
Can I use leaving term to go on an FSP ?

Thanks again.

You can apply for a leave term freshman year to leave beginnning summer after freshman year for an FSP. Application are due feb 1 each year and require 2 professor recommendations.
