3 or 4 AP's Junior Year?

Disclaimer: I am an upcoming junior with a 4.0 but have not taken AP’s before*

This fall I will be taking AP Human Geo, AP Psychology, and AP Language/Composition. I want to take AP spanish 4 as well. Due to having cross country and track year round, I’m debating whether or not I should drop AP Human Geo for AP Spanish 4 and stick with 3 AP’s or add on AP Spanish 4 to my original three, thus having 4. I’m concerned that this may be too much, especially since I am competing at a high level in track/xc. Responses appreciated.

I’m still in high school myself, so I’m not super qualified or anything, but I think I have some advice that may help.
First, is either or even both Ap Psychology and Ap Human Geography known to be very difficult/ have time consuming work at your school?
If they both do, then I would just take one even if it’s the “harder” one it’ll be worth it on your junior year transcript.
If just one is known to be difficult I would still take it, but it depends on how much “easier” or less stressful the other one is when you’re deciding whether on not to take both.
I think you should take Ap spanish though if you are up to it. From what I’ve heard a language Ap never hurts and not too many kids take them either, so it may help you stand out! Ap Lang is also typically not harmful to your schedule. Many juniors take it but it’s often worth it and typically never overwhelmingly difficult.
As far as my opinion on the Ap Human/ Ap psych decision, Ap human would probably be the more challenging course, but it differs from school to school. I would also say if one were to “look better” to colleges it would be Ap Human geo as well. Also, I personally found Ap Human somewhat boring from time to time at my school, while from what I’ve heard Ap psychology
is well known for being very interesting. Still, during junior year if these classes are similar to what they are at my school, taking the less interesting but more reputable one is a better decision and you could instead save the interesting electives like Ap psych for senior year. Again though, if Ap psych is considered to be an easier course at your school then it would not hurt to add it on, and would likely be an interesting class.
I hope this helps, but remember every school and person is different when it come to class experiences so take it with a grain of salt. Good luck!

Both AP Human Geo and AP Psych have a reputation for being less rigorous APs (and admission officers are aware). If you are looking for more rigor, drop one or both and add AP Spanish.

evergreen5 is right.
Are there any more rigorous APs your school offers that you’re interested in?
If so, I would take…

  • 1 of those rigorous APs
  • Ap Lang
  • Ap Spanish
  • *and if you’re really interested in Ap Psych or Ap Human Geo then maybe just one since it’s likely easier and couldn’t hurt if you’re really interested in the class and already have a balanced schedule with your commitment to your sports.

Thank you! Based on the consensus I’m getting the sense that three really is the best bet. I want to challenge myself but not overdue it. I would like to take AP human geo as a senior…primarily because I’m interested in AP psych (despite it having the reputation of being “easy”). AP human geo at my school is difficult, most get B’s.
