I want to have the highest chances to get into college. I’m going to be in 10th grade and have 7 periods. I want Algebra 2 honours, Chemistry honours, English 2 honours, AP US history, Jazz Band, and weightlifting.
Many of the more selective colleges want to see level 4 or AP level or equivalent of a foreign language. AP human geography is not generally considered that difficult a course, despite the AP label. It may be interesting enough to take as a social studies elective, but not at the expense of a core subject.
Colleges will value the 4th year FL year more than AP Human Geography.
Agreed. Make sure you have one each of the core subjects each year: English, math, social studies, science, and foreign language (up to level 4 or AP).
With a user name that implies that you are targeting top colleges, the decision is easy - Spanish.
Spanish 4 is a core class that top colleges expect.
AP human geography is an easy elective.
Take Spanish.
I agree with all above…Spanish 4.
Should I drop Jazz band or weightlifting for Ap human geography? I really like both but I’m wondering if Ap hug is important enough to drop one of those electives.
Sure, drop weightlifting (no pun intended).
IMO the best person to ask is your guidance counselor, not any one of us. The top tier colleges will want to see the guidance counselor check the box on the recommendation saying you have taken the most rigorous course-load available at your HS (which doesn’t mean taking every AP class – there is often some latitude in this). If the guidance counselor says that your prior/current/projected HS schedules are sufficient to get that most rigorous box checked then you are fine.
