6 APs too much for junior year?

Next year I plan on taking
AP World History
AP Calc AB
AP Lang
AP Physics C
AP Psychology
AP Human Geo
Honors French
Is this a terrible decision? I am a pretty hard working student but I don’t want to ruin my life being drowned by homework and studying

I’d talk to seniors and get the gist of each class bc every high school is a bit diff. But u should think about weighing the time suck from the class load or having time to really hone ur extracurriculars. Try to be realistic

In short - completely dependent on the student. Some can handle the rigor/workload, some can’t. Your guidance counselor, teachers, parents know more about you and your school better than anyone here.

Fwiw, the six APs here don’t look too bad.

Yes, it really depends on the person.

Keep in mind you want to allow yourself time for extracurriculars (more time if you have leadership positions), SAT/ACT prep, and sleep.

I would probably nix AG Human Geo and go with 5. You can always take it next year if you want.

Dropping APHG depends on whether OP has enough core history classes. But as most kids seem to get it in 9th, something of an entree, it is a bit unusual for junior year.

I’d drop psych. But once again, what can we say, with no idea of OP’s targets or his academic skills and record?

@lookingforward Yes, I agree.

I suggested Human Geo, because OP is already taking World this year, but yes, that is assuming he or she will complete 4 years of core history/social science classes.

OP, we can give better advice in the context of your entire HS schedule (what have you already taken and what are you planning to take next year) and if we know what type of schools you are interested in.

It depends on your HS.

At my kids HS, nobody was allowed to take more than four AP’s a year, and AP’s were only for juniors and seniors. Kids got into top schools with 3-5 AP’s routinely. If you took the AP class you were required to take the exam, and virtually everyone in the class got 4’s and 5’s.

At other HS’s, that wouldn’t cut it at competitive schools, and most kids in AP classes either opt out of the test, or get 3’s with 4’s and 5’s being rare.

We don’t know your HS, what you’ve already taken, how rigorous AP classes are, how hard the next level down from AP is for some of these courses.

What does your counselor say?

By taking world history I would complete all social studies credits required. Psych and HG are both considered social studies credits as well

That’s for your hs diploma. You need to figure what the colleges look for, for a possible admit.

It depends on your abilities as a student, the difficulty of your teachers etc. I would work with your current teachers and guidance counselor to create a schedule that is both rigorous and manageable for you.
