Is it bad if I stay in community colleges for 3 years? I plan to transfer to UC's such as UCLA and Davis. I would like to stay in CC for 2 years, but that isn't possible due to the number of classes I have to take for my major. I can try to cram all my classes into two years, but that would just make life VERY difficult for me. Does it make a difference at all if I stay for three years? Thank you for replying.

Try to take class in the summer. And apply to UC during your second year. If you don’t get accept then try again during your 3rd year. Remember even if you got accepted to UCLA, you can still take class at some nearby community college for lower cost.

Nobody cares how long it takes you to earn your Associates degree. Many students only go part-time and take several years to complete a degree. All that matters is the quality of your transcript, in terms of challenging courses that are pertinent to your intended transfer major, and of course, high grades.

I’m looking at five years to reach my goal for transfer to the UC. I can’t take summer courses, but I’m still taking 15-18 units fall/spring. Plus the classes I do need to move on are not offered in the summer.

CCC are so overloaded it becomes very difficult to select classes that are needed in the beginning. It took 3 semesters to finally have a decent registration date, where I wasn’t on the waitlist for even the lousiest classes. It was pretty much a waste of time.

As others have said, there is nothing wrong with taking 3 years to finish community college.

Take the time that you need. Just because most people spend 2 years at a CC doesn’t mean that it is expected of you. You are going to school to build your future, so take your time, do your best and don’t rush it.

Do not be discouraged. I am finally transferring after 2.5-3 years. it is worth it in the end! I have friends who stayed in CCC for 3+ years. Like someone said up there, be more concerned about your transcript and GPA.

No not at all. All of the people I know that went to a cc took more than 2 years to complete their degree. Some of course were going part time or were trying to find their major but it worked out for them and I’m sure it will for you too. It’s better to stay and be more prepared than leave too soon.

I have spent 3 years in CC. I transferred to University of Minnesota. I start this Fall to study computer engineering.

it is not bad at all everyone goes at their own pace. Ive been at a CC for 4 years and im starting this fall/finally transferred. Besides it is sorta good in a sense because it allows you time to think about what you actually want to do with your life and want to major in when you transfer.
