No it’s not over. You have an interesting story, and frankly no one (including me) on this board can tell you your chances with Harvard’s holistic process, so don’t waste your time angsting over the replies

That said, it is not only those that go to Harvard that get a rich and satisfying education. Stay flexible.

Yeah, as others have said, you have a decent chance with all of your other achievments, but I’m doubtful that anyone on here truly knows how the Harvard admissions board works. So it’s worth a shot, but you can definitely get into many other great schools, possibly other ivy league schools, with your achievments. So, don’t fret too much. Good luck.

You should also remember that once you get into Harvard, you have to go to Harvard and get a degree from there. You’re going to be competing and in classes with people who are capable of getting that 34+, and while a 30 doesn’t necessarily mean that you will be behind, it’s not a good sign. You might have the character and gumption needed to survive at a school like Harvard, but without that test taking ability, it might be a hard four years.

^ I disagree. Some people (including myself) are simply bad test-takers due to the intense time limit. I’m graduating at the top of my high school (all As), but got only a 31 on the ACT. Ironically, the section that destroyed my score was science, even though that’s my strength.

Harvard is hard to predict. I did see people with low score got accepted-especial for URM with a great set of ECS. On the contrary, some LACs schools play very high weight on scores & GPA, with less weight on ECs. So give yourself a try. You never know what will come next!

The reason I found your thread is because I just found out that I have a 28 composite, which is the second lowest quartile for University of Chicago. I feel like an idiot. The thing is I got 30 in English, 30 in Reading (CR is my lowest SAT score by 60 points), 28 in Math, and 24 in Science.
I want to be a Biology major. I feel SO EFFING STUPID.
Weeps tears of bitterness
UChicago wants either ACT or SAT, so I don’t have to send them my ACTs. Do you have to send your ACTs to Harvard?
The fact that you are a first generation Afghan immigrant is SUPER impressive, and the first woman to get college education, etc?
That will tickle their fancy. (lol).
Like someone said, with Harvard there is no student who can be 100% sure they will get in. And if you don’t, you weren’t meant to be there anyway. Believe it or not, there could be better things out there for you, at some other college! Do not stress. Trust that you will not get rejected from the university you were meant to attend.

Don’t give up on Harvard!! I just found my ACT is 27. I will still apply to Stanford and WUSTL despite that. At the end of all this, I don’t want to sit down and think “what if I had applied to my dream school(Stanford)?” While I do know that getting rejected is likely, I also have hope and faith that maybe something in my app will make them consider me.
Same for you theknightlight. Don’t give up on UChicago.
