32 ACT, do I stand a chance?

So, I have a 32 ACT (33 Superscored), and I am wondering if I stand a chance RD this year? I am not too sure how test scores are viewed at Northwestern. I know a 32 isn’t very acceptable for schools like HYPSM, Columbia, but what about NU?

If it makes any difference, I plan on applying to SESP, very interested in their Social Policy program, and I have an obvious passion of Social Policy throughout my app.

Also, in general, is SESP harder or easier to get in than the other schools. I couldn’t find any reported statistics and I have heard controversial things.

Thank you!

Oh, I plan on taking the the Math 2 and Chemistry subject tests this January. I can expect a 750+ on both of them. My ACT subsections are 35 E, 31 M, 34 R, 27 S. Superscored it is 35 E, 35 M, 34 R, 27 S. So I would imagine a good Chem score would compensate for the low science ACT score

I got into Medill with a 31, and I know several “unhooked” people who got into NU with ACTs lower than mine. I’m not sure about SESP’s acceptance rate - they take the fewest people (I think their freshman class my year was between 40 and 50 - but they are also the smallest school, so they get fewer applicants.

@kaydsosa Thank you for the answer! I just have a few questions, did you apply RD or ED, and are you unhooked? Also, would you recommend me to apply to WCAS or Medill and then transfer into SESP (I feel like I have ECs that align strongly with Medill and SESP), given that transferring between schools is generally easy with the exception of engineering?

@waddups I applied RD (because I needed to compare financial aid packages), I had a hook (I’m a rare biracial combination), and I had what CC would considerable an awful GPA (3.4). I suggest applying to SESP because I’m 80 percent sure that Northwestern admits you to the school at large and then the individual colleges underneath it. If you are really concerned about it, though, apply WCAS because it is SUPER easy to transfer into the other colleges (except McCormick). Don’t apply as Medill because they are difficult to get into, and unless you’re dedicated to writing as a career, it isn’t worth it to go through the extra hassle. Apply to the school you want to get into or apply to WCAS as a whole, but I’m sure you’ll be fine either way. I also think you SAT 2 scores will help you (most applicants don’t have those).
