33 on ACT?

Hi everyone,
I have received my ACT score from December back, and I’m debating whether to take the ACT again. My composite score was a 33 (Math-35, Reading-34, English-33, Science-31). I will be applying to BS/MD programs such as Boston University BA/MD program and HPME in fall 2018. Should I retake the ACT in February? If so, does anyone have any tips on how to raise my score? I’ve taken a lot of practice tests and don’t have a clue as to what I should do to raise my score.

I wouldn’t take it again focus on other parts of your app.

Take it again if you plan on going to Caltech, Stanford, MIT, or any of the top 10 engineering schools, or some schools that place a big emphasis on scores such as Vanderbilt, Duke, and some Ivies. etc. Just concentrate on the science and English sections with a brief review of the others.

you should be fine. like the person above me said, unless you’re planning to apply to MIT, Caltech, or Vanderbilt, don’t waste the time and money. of course, you can always take it again to have the option of superscoring. keep in mind that, although many colleges do superscore, most don’t. it’s all up to you.

Any tips on how to review for the science and english section?

Did you get your test booklet back to see what you missed? that would show you what your weakness was and what to study. I don’t know if you can get it after getting your scores, but maybe. It cost a few dollars to order it.

I didn’t get it back :frowning:

If you do decide to take it again, make sure you practice in a testing situation…meaning take the first two sections…then a 10 minute break…then the last two. Your scores declined as you went so it may be some fatigue. Practicing full tests (if you feel like you have the content down) will have with fatigue. My sons used The Real ACT books for their practice exams. Seemed to work. Best of luck!

I think you’re fine, but if you want to retake these are what my DD used

Science - For the Love of ACT Science
English - the basic Barron’s ACT book

And unless you are positive you aren’t going to sit a test again, always pay for the question and answer service. Nothing’s better than learning from your actual mistakes.
