$35,000 engineering degree

Hi, I'm wondering if it's worth considering Michigan engineering program and end up paying/borrowing almost $35,000 to graduate with a B.S.E in Industrial & Operation Engineering or pick another local university (similar program) for almost half of michigan cost. Considering I will be graduating with average grades. Thanks for your advise.

It matters which college this other local university is... If its still in the top-tier undergraduate engineering level (like Purdue, MSU, Penn State, Texas A&M) and you can earn a degree for alot less, I would say go for local... but if you're talking like Eastern Michigan or somewhere not as prestigious in the engineering world, I would say it is better to graduate with a 35000 debt, cause you'll soon be making enough to pay that debt back. I think it depends on this other local university...

Definitely depends on what the school is. If you are looking at a school like U of I, Purdue, etc. save your money.

Local school I'm looking at is UM-Dearborn campus.

Do the UM-Flint 2+2 guaranteed admission program...you're 100% guaranteed transfer to UM-AA after two years if you keep at least a 3.5gpa in Flint.

Oh I already got accepted as junior transfer in UM-AA and Dearborn fall 08. Yet worth considering $35,000-$40,000 total debit at AA verses $25,000 at dearborn?

U of M's IOE program is one of the best...like top3. So yes it's worth it.

$10,000 extra debt to graduate from UMAA is worth it. I'd go with Ann Arbor.

Does Dearborn have a 2+2 guaranteed admit program like Flint? I'm going to Flint for 2 years and was awarded a full tuition and fees scholarship...and then 2 years at Ann Arbor. My degree will still say Ann Arbor on it. Look into that program if you're worried about money.

Thanks guys!
