35 on ACT: Should I retake?

My click bait skills are on point honestly.

Ok so here’s my issue. ACT scores came out today and I was pleasantly surprised to find that I scored a 35 composite. I expected around a 33 and that I would have room for improvement. However, when I saw my subscores, I found that I had a 35 in English and Science as well as a 36 in math. My reading score was much lower than all of these at 32. I am only a sophomore in high school and I did not expect to do this well so this kind of changes my plans. Should I retake the test to bring up that reading score? My worry is that having a single section that is scored significantly lower than the others may raise red flags to admissions officers.

I took the writing portion and my score has not been released yet for that section so it may compel me to retake. Also, I’m still young so does submitting a score from sophomore year also raise red flags?

Also, according to the practice tests I have taken, I always seem to score consistently on english, science, and math so if I do decide to retake, it is unlikely that these scores will go down.

It won’t.

Accept the 35 and more on; it’s a great score, and there is really sooooooo much more to college apps that simply test scores. There will be much better uses for your time.

You are done. Congratulations on getting it out of the way ! You may want to consider taking SAT II subject tests , depending on where you are planning to apply.

Work on the rest of your app, Sleep in Saturdays.

No. Do not retake. A 36 will not get you any further. Use the time do something else wonderful. Keep up the good work. Your scores could possibly go down.

No. It will look bad/greedy to retake. Move on to other things, you are done.

Congratulations! If you really want to take more tests, study for a few SAT subject tests later on and do those. And as everyone else has suggested, focus on the rest of your life now. It’s a real gift to be able to put this behind you already. There isn’t a single school in the world that would care about a 36 vs. a 35. If you had tanked the math section and wanted to be an engineer, it might make sense to retake but in this case, no.

You are good with the 35 Composite Anything 30 and above will not count against that score and a 32 in reading is actually really good - 99th or higher percentile.

Your chances of not being able to nail another 35 are actually higher than nailing a 36. Time to move on to other aspects of your application. Congrats!

Thanks for your responses everyone! Honestly, this score messed up my schedule lol but I guess I’ll keep it. It’s very tempting to go for the 36 since I didn’t feel that prepared for this test but I’ll have to live with it haha

Consider the PSAT for NMSF.
