hah well i dropped my french 3 years ago hah didnt take french in junior year and it wasnt availble in senior where do you live?

I bought digital watch (not hand ones); and I will use it because it has no alarm.

I had taken two this week so its down to reviewing the mistakes I made and making sure those are not repeated again.

Mirage where are you from? no APs offered? surely not Korea?

whaaaaaat? they’ve emphasized it numerous of times on the site that it has to be silent any disturbance whatsoever might result in cancellation

In Europe.

Is this so important? I created a thread to receive answers to 3 questions; there are 22 posts and no answer to any of my questions; so please don’t digress :)

Any ideas?

Yes

No

I think the proctor will be flexible in this respect - probably a warning if it proves to be a “menace” to the rest of test-takers.

Yeah I am international, and i know it will be hard at the UC system, so im not putting a lot of expectations on them. Although a lot of international students from asia come there, so maybe it’s not that bad. Anyways, my best case scenario is getting into USC, as my country is very underrepresented over there and i heard they take that into consideration. I’ll most likely be one of a kind there :D.

And DAYYYUM, 27k/y that’s more than a half cost covered, the most expensive schools are at 50k/y or smth. My country does not provide any sort of aid, so i’ll have to rely on my own savings. My best bet at getting aid would be getting a swimming scholarship at a Div II school, e.g. UCSD, but i really don’t want to do that as I would like to concentrate on my studies when i’m there.

haha just wondering cause tips from other students would be great

1) im not sure whether the ti89 is allowed or not but the 84 is
2) you can bring 6 if you want to just dont waste too much time and focus on the test
3) well im not sure about the alarm as long as it’s silent i.e if youre gonna use stopwatch mode it shouldnt beep but bring an analog clock if you have one just in case

anything you want to share to us that haven’t taken the test yet? like what mistakes did you do the first time etc?

cmon well according to my counselors at the edusa you’ve got a higher chance of getting accepted by harvard

true but getting that extra $30k/y isn’t easy i mean you’ll have to get some sort of fin aid unless you’re wealthy

yale is approx 58k

oh that sucks wow can you pay like 40k/y from savings? that’s quite neat! :P

Yeah, i figured that but it’s still worth a try. However, USC is private so chances for international, in-state or out-of-state should be pretty even.

As for the money, yeah it’s costly, but it probably pays off. Could you get a loan or smth?

^
I took the SAT 3 times. The most silly mistakes:

1) Don’t unleash all your concentration to the essay.
2) When the proctor says that you have 5 minutes left–bubble everything you have done, and then continue to work until the end of a section.
3) Don’t rush.
4) Don’t get overly excited during the math. Because first 10 questions seem to be easy, you are getting excited that you can answer all other questions correctly and thus, you make thousands of silly mistakes and stuck in hard questions.
5) Redo. Redo. Redo.

And the golden rule to the math.
- Every hard question–no matter #20, 18, or 16–can be solved using simple and straightforward formulas.

Just checked:
- Ti-89 IS allowed.

Somebody has to tell me how to quote, i can’t figure that out.

Mirage2000: Youre not the only one taking the Full practice test. I took one a few days ago, the one on the CB website, as it is probably closest to the real thing. Scored exactly what i expect: 2010 Composite; 720 Math, 640 WR; 630 CR. I hope i’ll get somewhat close or even better on the real thing.

Foreverflawless: I know i’m blessed with the money thing. I’ll owe my dad big time after i graduate though… :/

hah well as long as people can support you that’s great well the swedish fin aid inclused loans as well

well i’ll have to focus more on the june exam if this one turns out horribly

i’ve realized that the math q’s can be solved easily but that only strikes me afterwards…

^^
Brink that WR–a 640–up by reading the Silverturtle’s Guide.

another q i’ve read that the better universities check your older exams as well and say if one gets 15xx on saturday and 18xx in june but is then able to boost up the score to 2000+ will the previous exams greatly lower the student’s chance of getting accepted?

do you mean this one
Silverturtle’s Guide to SAT and Admissions Success?

CmonSon,
It seems like we are in the same boat. Can you elaborate more on your preparation?

Yeah i’ll try. I’m not sure it will work for me though, i suck at grammar, i can’t even name 3 or 4 tenses let alone other grammar rules. I sort of trust my intuition on that, usually works out pretty well. I mean, i’m an A english student, not sure how though :D.

As for my prep: Nothing special really. I started mid november, took a BB practice test, got 1700 smth. I figured there’s a lot of time, so i didn’t study for a while. Then i started working with the review material, which proved to be worthless as i wasted like a month and a half on it. Then, after scoring straight 1800’s on a few practice tests i was like: OH ****, the sat is in a bit more than a month, so i started memorizing words, like a few everyday, and then spoke with my swimming coach, arranged more free time and went on a practice test spree for the last three weeks. Just work through a practice test, see where you were wrong. Now i’m at the 2000 line, taking my first SAT on saturday. Thats about it.

Oh and i read CC for a few advices on CR section, as i scored mid 500’s on it. Now it seems all good.

Yeah, I have problems with the WR either.

I’m not too worried about writing, but what really gets me is CR. I just generally never read a lot of books, so keeping a good reading pace and absorbing what i read is kinda hard. But since I started answering questions along as i read, i had a slight improvement.
