3rd AP Class in ninth grade?

Hello! I just started high school. All my classes are great except for this one class, so what I did was get a schedule change form. I wanted to switch into an AP class, and I wanted to know what AP class I should take.

I am currently taking Accelerated Algebra II, Advanced Physics, Spanish II, PE, Eng 9, AP Computer Science, AP Human Geography, and the class I want to switch out of. I know I’m already taking two AP classes, but I can definitely manage another one.

I don’t know if I should even take a third AP class as a freshman, because I have robotics, speech and debate, and basketball as extracurriculars. I am willing to drop any of my extracurriculars except for basketball(I love basketball too much) if I need to.

Should I take a third ap class? If so, what ap class should I take? Are there any other classes that are not AP you recommend me to take?

I appreciate all the advice.

The approach shouldn’t be to take “any AP.” The approach should be to take a set of classes that move you closer to meeting your graduation requirements. You are dropping a class, so presumably you have a specific period available. Unless you will be allowed to switch your other classes around (and risk losing a class you like), you need to find out what classes are available during that period. And consider yourself lucky that you like all but one class.

Take an elective - something that interests you!

Hi! To begin, I’m just curious as to what other AP classes you can take as a freshman at your school. Because two is already a lot more than what most schools allow. So what options will you have? I’m a current sophomore so I’ve experienced freshman year already, and based on that experience, here’s my advice: DO NOT take a third AP class. Trust me. I spent my freshman year getting my graduation requirements out of the way (art, PE, etc) so I could focus on academics later on in high school. Right now I’m in 3 AP classes: biology, world history and Spanish language (everything else is honors) and I have to say it’s been very difficult…even though it’s only the third week of school.

You’re going to burn yourself out, especially coupled with all the extracurriculars you are going to be doing alongside. However, we’re talking about you here so it might be different, but I wouldn’t sacrifice my extracurriculars (especially yours— they’re really solid extracurriculars for a freshman) just to add another AP class. This is the type of stuff that typically juniors and sometimes sophomores might do, but not freshman. This si the ear for you to beign developing your extracurriculars and learn how to manage social and high school life together. You should also consider that this will be your first year taking AP classes, so you might want to take just 2 and see how it goes for you. Build a solid foundation for the future years of your high school career. Anyways, as for the classes you’ve already chosen to take…

AP human geography was really easy for me, and I got a 5 on the exam, but I never studied for the tests and that’s why my average in that class was an A-. The hardest part for me was the time-consuming notes we had to do. I can’t really say much about computer science, but if you really like the subject you’ll find it easy enough. Hope you find my advice helpful!

Thanks itachasuke, I am allowed to take any ap class I want to take, because I harassed the couselors over the summer.

Anyways do you suggest any classes that are not ap classes that I should take?

None of us know what classes your school offers.

This question is pointless without knowing what AP classes are available to freshman and if your HS even allows freshman to take more than 2 AP classes. Many APs have prereqs which you don’t have.

But more to the point, if you need another class, look to see what graduation requirements you can easily knock out. If your school requires an arts credit, then that’s a fine option.

I highly doubt that for the reasons I already stated.

AP Comp Sci and AP HUG is more than enough for a freshman.

You can’t take an AP foreign language or math yet, got get through the lower levels.

AP Lang and Lit are usually taken in 11th and 12th.

You already have a social studies. One AP a year is a good plan there.

Is AP HUG a one semester class at your school?

I’d recommend an arts class or a communications class. Either will make you more well-rounded; both are required for my kids’ school. Just about everyone can improve their communications skills.

This seems to be another case of, if you have to ask, you don’t know. There’s no point just loading up on AP, it doesn’t impress colleges. As a 9th grader, you have no idea what rigor, whether you’re prepared. Bugging the GC is no sign of readiness. You sure could mess things up.

And saying you’d drop an EC is the icing. You have 3 solid ones and dont realize this.

SatchelSF one year.

Everyone else, thanks! I decided to stick with the class that I wanted to switch out of. If you’re wondering what class it is, it’s leadership.

FWIW, in the long term, that is a better option than taking another AP class. Good luck
