I’m a rising sophomore. I had the chance this year to take three AP classes, but I opted to only take two. Some in my class did, however, take three, and now I’m not sure I made the right decision. I want to be competitive, but I want to try to keep a balance as well. The additional AP class I wanted to take was AP Bio, because I did really well in it (my final grade was a 99) and enjoyed it. I decided to not take it because I know that it is going to be difficult to handle in addition to chemistry. I’ve planned out the classes that I would like to take throughout my high school career in a fashion that I feel I can juggle my extracurriculars and still be challenged at the same time. They are as follows
9th Grade
AP Human Geo
Accel CCGPS Algebra/Geom A
Pre AP Lit/Composition
Pre AP Bio
PE
Writer’s Workshop
Pre AP American Gov’t/Civics
10th Grade
AP Lang
AP World History

Accel CCGPS Adv. Algebra/Geom B

My school restricts the number of weighted classes underclassmen can take, and there is no such thing as “Pre-AP”. We only have 7 honors classes at our school (4 of them languages, others are Lit, Pre-Calc, and Chem). I went ahead and took the APLAC test anyway. For me, freshman year was so easy, especially since my only Honors class was kind of a joke. I managed to juggle my schedule with sports, competitions, and volunteering. For senior year, I have to juggle senioritis, college apps, and more competitions with my schedule. Learn how to manage your time and you should be fine.
