My son has applied regular decision to several Ivies and top Liberal Arts colleges. He is concerned he may get about a 75 in one of his AP classes in the 3rd quarter. This is absolutely not a case of senioritis. While the subject is not his strongest, the grade would be largely due to a horrible, arbitrary, and cruel teacher. I can't go into the details, but please take my word for it. His average for the first two quarters for this particular class was 90. His overall average for the first two quarters was 95 while taking several AP's. His grades in all his other classes are holding up in the 3rd quarter. It's not yet official, but he will likely be valedictorian, has 2300+ SAT score, and otherwise very strong college applications. Would a single grade of about 75 in the 3rd quarter cause a college to rescind an offer of admission? Thank you for your help. He is worried sick.

No.

as long as it’s a 75 in that one class, I wouldn’t lose sleep over it. He’s fine unless the rest of his grades drop off a cliff. Good luck to him!
