Johns Hopkins is known both nationally and internationally as one of the most competitive school to get high GPA in... especially if you are taking those premed required courses...

Is it true that getting such a high GPA at johns hopkins premed almost guarantees/favors those students into their college medical school (johns hopkins school of medicine)?

northwestern, university of chicago and geogetown have programs or not an official program that allow 2-3 undergraduates taking the premed courses with such an outstanding academic achievement from the college of their medical school, and guarantees a seat at the med school.....

How come Johns Hopkins (such a nice med school) doesn't have such a program?? they know that johns hopkins premeds will most likely go to the top med schools... (they r usually the ones in the >3.8 GPA at Hopkins)

There is no such thing as a guarantee at Johns Hopkins (or Harvard, or UCSF, or Stanford, or Penn…)

However, JHUSOM does favor applicants from Hopkins undergrad. They are more highly represented in the school of medicine than any other undergraduate school. You just need to figure out how to be in the top ~10-20 students from the undergrad, an insanely difficult thing I’m sure.

“They are more highly represented in the school of medicine than any other undergraduate school.”
Im pretty sure this is true for all US medical schools, not just for hopkins…

so if ur in the top 10-20 among the premeds at Johns Hopkins, which as u said is insanely difficult, ur almost in…

cuz from one of the blogs i saw, it said that in junior year, you (JHU PREMED) get an early notification of JHUSOM acceptance… that you is the top 1 or 2 among the premeds at JHU

I would bet good money that that isn’t true. Think of the logistics: how would the school of medicine know who the premeds are? Are they going to be snooping through the GPAs of the whole student body? How would they know about extracurricular activities? Are they going to be offering admission to students without any LORs? Also, what’s the point of accepting early? These same students are going to be applying to the school of medicine soon anyway.

Johns Hopkins doesn’t do things like that because they don’t have any need to. Further, the only way I could see them doing the whole early acceptance thing is if they offer early acceptance during the interview season (after receiving everyone’s applications). I doubt there is any truth to that, but I will ask my JHU alumni classmates if I see them.

Uh, they obviously don’t feel the need to offer it.

And, so?

Don’t forget, that perhaps 35% of matriculating Frosh at The Hop are premed/prehealth. That is a LOT of students, and a much higher % than most undergrad colleges. Hopkins Med just waits until senior year and selects that ones that they want, and then competes with Harvard Med to keep them, or other med schools which offer merit money, or other med schools closer to the students’ homes. OTOH, there are a lot of Hopkins premeds that will wash out, just like at every other college. .
