Do U think I have a chance???
I'm an international student. Here are my test scores:
630 TOEFL (too bad, I think)
800 Math2C, 800 Physics
IOI 2003 Gold Medal
2002,2003,2004 First Prize in the National Informatics Olympiad
GPA: 10.0/10.0
High school: 9.6/10.0 (could this score hurt my application???)
Activities in my current university: Participate in AGAME 2004 (a programming contest for Southeast Asian students), English Olympiad for university students, Informatics Olympiad for university students (my team got the first prize)
Other activities: Club for young talents in math and informatics. I'm currently teaching children informatics and building a training website with my professors and some other students. Sports: badminton, tennis
I'm really worried. Some students here have "perfect" applications and lots of extracurricular activities.

I think you do have a chance to get admitted. However, isn't MIT and UC Berkeley the most sought after schools in Asia. In India and Pakistan, I know they are very popular, but I can't speak for the entire Asian continent. However, you do have excellent test scores and EC's. Unlike what FYAD claims, I do not discourage students to apply to schools. If that is what FYAD thinks, I feel sorry for him.

Nevetheless, I think you do stand at a chance for MIT. Do you plan to apply to Caltech or UC Berkeley for a engineering school? I also heard that international students don't recieve financial aid. If this is true, are you able to afford a MIT education which is worth about $40 K / year?

fyad you don't know jack about me. Yes, I did get Stanford and Cal for Chemical Engineering. It doesn't mean that I accepted their offer. I merely told them my stats and if I got in or not. I DID NOT MENTION IF I ACCEPTED THEIR OFFER. I had to continue one more year at a community college because both schools did not offer me a complete scholarship. SO I TRIED AGAIN THIS YEAR......DON'T ACCUSE ME OF LYING WHEN I DID NOT LIE. I wouldn't lie in a forum just to get recognition. I am trying again this year so that I can hopefully get a scholarship to one of those schools. Over and out.

Stanford does not offer scholarships...

Edit: I find it extremely unlikely that one would reject an offer from what is, indubitably, one of the most difficult schools to gain acceptance; what assurance is there that you will even be accepted the next time you apply?

well, this time I am only applying to UC campuses and no private institutions. Hopefully I will get some type of scholarship from these schools

Logically, they offered you a scholarship, but it was not enough.

So you are trying for Stanford again this year?

So even if you did not get a scholarship, and the first quote was merely a mistake, you are still applying to those schools.

Now...

But you just mentioned that you were trying for the above institutions again.

no, i am just applying to UC's this semester. I applied for their alumni scholarships and for FAFSA. No private institutions this year.

great, you get into stanford, now stop bragging about it and share your experience with us since you ain't applying and wouldn't worry about us stealing your chances.

no offense my friend, but a GPA of around 3.71 doesn't enable you to walk in and out of Stanford's door like G-Man in halflife 2.

blackdream....i was not bragging at all....just clarifying what others had to think. about my GPA, i know it is not enough for stanford but i am not applying to stanford. i just want to know about my chances at the UC's (esp UCB and UCLA).

EDITED:

I believe you now.
