Im a freshman @ ucla.
I got my fall 2007 grades and got a 4.0,
a a and a+
in three classes.
Well,
one physics, one math and one general education (music).

will that help ALOT on my transfer application?

after all, its only 3 classes , 14 quarter credits

Thank you!

p.s I just realized harvard deadline is not march but in 3 weeks.. *****

I would certainly say that would significantly help your admission chances.

However, it is the essay that is the most crucial aspect of your application (although as a sophomore transfer, HS GPA and SAT will weigh heavily on admissions.) Make sure to right a incredible essay - and have a legitimate reason for transferring.

Good Luck!

Your high school GPA will probably be equal in weight to your college work, so it's hard to tell your chances without your high schools GPA and SATs.

would it raise my chances significantly?
well, my high school gpa was like 3.5 uw and 4.2 w.

in terms of the ratio of importance,
would high school gpa and college gpa make 1:1 ratio?

As a freshman, your high school record and SATs are pretty important, though I can't really speak mathematically about it. I would wait to apply if you're set on Harvard.

If you only took 3 courses at UCLA, then Harvard is not going to admit you.

They are looking for people who are challenging themselves (who are taking a minimum of 4 courses a quarter and more likely 5-6 courses). Also, this is one quarter--so they will want to know your record after at least one full year. They are more likely to take junior transfers than sophomore transfers--and you aren't even going to have 1/3rd of a year completed when you apply.

Sorry.

P.S. If you actually want to get into Harvard, take more courses, get involved in activities at UCLA--and then consider applying. As it is, I'd say you might want to just do the best you can at UCLA for now--and then see if your stats are good enough for Harvard in another year.

yeah. i figured i wont be applying to harvard anyway.
thanks for the reply!

would columbia and cornell be possible?

When you transfer after freshman year, most colleges (including ivies) put MORE weight on your h.s. gpa/scores/activities than they do on your college stuff. If you couldn't get in senior year in high school, it most likely will not be any easier now. That said, if you COULD have gotten in last year, then you have a decent shot at it now.
