Recently, I’ve been trying out AP World and so far, it’s a pretty easy class despite the two quizzes every week and an essay every two weeks. The homework and notes are meager, so I’m glad to have an awesome teacher.
However, AP World is the only AP I’m taking. I’m planning on self-studying 3 AP’s which are:
- AP US Government (Have never taken APUSH or US History freshman year)
- AP Macroeconomics
- AP Microeconomics
I’ve already bought US Gov’t textbook and planning on using an online textbook for AP Econs.
Any tips?
For what purpose are you self studying 3 AP’s? Does your HS not offer these classes? In most cases, you would be better served taking the class.
My HS only allow seniors to take these classes. I didn’t want to wait
Government and economics are usually required classes (or at least one of them is), and self studying an AP will not give you credit for the actual class that you may need for graduation. Wait until then.
If you’re just trying to take as many APs as possible, you might as well take human geography and comparative government as well, unless you have already taken these.
Have you looked at your High School’s course selection catalog and established a four year plan? If you self-study too many APs, you might leave yourself with not too many actual AP classes to take in future years.
I would advise you only self study an AP if your high school doesn’t offer the course, or you want to make room on your schedule.
Agree with this ^^^^. Self studying AP courses are not impressive to admissions unless your school offers very few or none at all, then it shows initiative and willingness to learn.
If your school offers them, take them in high school, even senior year. Colleges want you taking the class, participating in discussions, preparing the papers, etc.
You could self study one AP but only if you’re passionate about the subject and it’s not offered by our high school or can’t be taken in other ways (cc/dual enrolment, virtual school). Otherwise it’ll be for our personal enjoyment but will not matter to colleges.
