4 dig. dorm items

when will we find out all of this info from the cadet sight picture? will we get it all in june when we arrive or will we hear some of it at orientation? do they publish a "book" of what the CSP contains? and it seems to be that most people recommend just waiting until after beast (or parents weekend) to get most things (printer, cell phones {which cant be had til PW}, monitors, pictures, and other personal items)

don't worry about the CSP until after BCT, it doesn't really apply to you guys until then.

During BCT, you'll have a BCT CSP that has all the info you need from the CSP. You don't need to worry about the actual CSP till after Acceptance Day.

As for the monitors, here's what the new CSP's guidance for 4-digs is on it:

"Additional computer/video monitor connected to computer; 1 per occupant not to exceed 24” screen and must fit on desktop.
Fourth class privilege at AFCW/CC discretion."

They change the CSP every semester (or earlier) though, so this may not hold true for 2012. Or the Wing Commander next semester might give it anyway.

The important part of all the above discussion is that you should not bring much. The Cadet Sight Picture is a large document with all the rules that apply specifically to the cadet wing.

If you are not already a cadet, don't worry about it. Show up with the clothes on your back and the necessities for any time you might spend in Colorado prior to inprocessing. Don't bring your guitar, don't bring video games. Just bring the necessities.

If you're curious about bringing something, the answer is probably no.

IMREADER - Thanks - Great Advice.

Thats is what my son did.

For males just a razor (cordless?), your boots, and the clothes on your back.

My advice for shaving(what I did), is to bring a good electric razor. Once you get the hang of it will save you alot of time. Especially in Jacks, b/c instead of wasting the EXTREMLY few minutes you get for hygiene in the morning shaving with literally over 50 cadets cramming into a facility that is designed for 15 people you can shave in your tent whenever(during the night/free time) you want, w/o all the hassle.

I'm in complete agreement with cdk. Manual may give you a closer shave, but that's not important as long as you don't look shabby.

Don't you mean the lone minute you get for hygiene cdk? ;)

(I'm joking of course)

If I recall, I had to work really hard to convince you that electric was better during BCT. ;) Even then, I don't think you were convinced. :) Funny how things change!

haha, yeah, I was a bit stubborn back then...I think it finally took three of the current 3-digs on here to convince me to bring an electric razor at all, and even then I still brought a manual razor too.

And it is indeed funny how things change...especially after you come to USAFA. ;)

Are you allowed to have cameras during BCT?

No, not until Acceptance.

i'm gonna echo what a ton of other people have said a lot.. guys: just bring the clothes on your back, boots, electric/manual razor and blades/shavin cream, and the required forms and stuff. no extra stuff.. we can have all that later on! :)

...I'd really like to see how someone expects to take pictures at the position of attention!

Forms, boots, razor, and the clothes you are wearing...that's required.

Cell phones are optional.

Note that if you bring a cell phone, it will be one of the first things that is taken away once you "start your journey". Depending on the squadron you go into, you MIGHT be able to use your cell phone shortly after Basic ends, but you probably won't be able to use it until Parent's Weekend.

And yeah...please don't bring a camera and expect to be allowed to take pictures. That's a sure-fire way to get a laughed at, at the minimum.

I would say bring your cell phone. Because on Doolie day out you'll be able to use it, and once Basic is over most people I know got them back. The people who didn't get them back should've as it is in the CSP(the cadet rulebook on life) that not having a cell phone is safety hazard, so any squad that did not give them back, broke the rules..:O.

ya....that's a normal occurrence though....

question on cell phones...
I read (I think in the appointee packet) that until a few months into the academic year, 4°s only get telephone privileges on the weekends.

so do we get to keep them and just not use them except on the weekends, are they taken away during the week, is that not really a rule? what's the story? :)

Depends on the squadron...D's let them keep the phone but held the battery. That only lasted a few weeks, by October they had full phone privileges.

lol, so they could feel comforted by the feel of it? that just seems funny to me...holding the battery :D
