After completion of BCT, I know that we 4 degeres will nto be allowed a lot of “privileges” such as movies, games, etc. until recognition. However, I was wondering what IS allowed…such as having a cell phone, camera, and stuff like that.

It would just be nice to know what things I can count on having my parents ship to me during my first year and what I can’t.

Unless there's a drastic change in this area (which I really don't foresee), you should be able to have a cell phone and a camera after BCT. The big no-no's of what to send are anything entertainment oriented (CDs, DVDs, video games, anything else similar).

I mainly ask because as a graduation present I got a digital camera, and was hoping I could have it with me during my 4 degree year. Thanks for the help...I dont know if that counts as "something I have fun with" or not.

That's good, a camera's always a nice thing to have, and you can also have fun with it haha. Sure, it sucks like no video games or TV, but it will force you to study :).

Having an instrument like a guitar after BCT is acceptable. I noticed quite a few of my four degrees this past year had an instrument at the Academy and would get together and play. I'd definitely recommend it if it's something he's interested in. The instrument obviously can't demand all of his time, but it'll give him something to do (especially when he can't go out); plus it's free!

What about Ipod.... if you tell them you want to use as a recording device for lectures and such??? Don't laugh, I think it could be a great tool for that.

Interesting piece of information. i was told by some cadets this weekend that 2010 won't be allowed cell phones until march. Can anyone confirm this? The cadets I talked to were preety sure of it.

The one thing about AFA, is the pendulum swings things change. The class of '81 were not recognized until just before graduation. The class '82 were recognized around spring break. They call it "hell week" back then. '09 was the first class in 3 years to have it.

Only seniors had cars until '81....lot 81...if it still around. In the nineties, no civilian clothes even off base.

Every new commander wants to his thumb print on his command. This happens not just at AFA. McPeak changed the class A uniform, now Mosely wants to change it again. Three changes in 20 years. We need to adopt the cadet uniform. lol just kidding.

Every new Commandant will change things, it just practice for the real Air Force.

I posted it in another thread, but I'll post it here about cell phones since it came up. Things are a pendulum there and while they're moving toward fewer/later privileges, cell phones may still be allowed, and perhaps even recommended or required. This isn't because they're "cool" or fun but because of safety concerns. You should reeive specific info on this before you show up.

As far as I have heard you guys will have to wait longer to get anything, then 09. Trust me though you'll make your own fun and there wil be occasional chances to use entertainment media.
