4 dig. dorm items

as of now… for the class of 2012

what exactly during BCT (and after BCT and after recog.) can a 4 dig. have in their dorm room?

what’s in regs. ?
what’s absolutely not allowed?
what can be spec. approved?

thanks.

Well, during BCT, you can't have pretty much anything except for an electric razor and that sort of stuff. Anything else will be confiscated, and be given back to you after Basic ends.

After BCT, you can have most stuff, but you aren't supposed to have any media (depends on the squad though), or a few other items. Special approval is needed for keeping some stuff in your room. Supposedly, 2012 will need special approval for monitors next semester too, but no one knows if that is true.

Post Recognition, you can have most stuff, just not a TV, Refrig, or a car until later.

woot! I love my fridge. Only 5 months till a car! O how I long to have that vehicular freedom!

what do you folks suggest us 2012 ers bring for BCT...
you know... stuff that will be confiscated but we'll get back after BCT...

thanks :D

There were threads regarding this before 2011 entered BCT, do a forum search.

um, nothing....how about that? Would it be that hard to live without stuff for a couple months?

I think it would be a great thing.
(really)

Can't Wait !

Bring a razor and your boots, that's all you'll need, honestly.

Only what you are willing to carry in your left hand...for half the day.

(I made the mistake of thinking I had packed light enough!)

I would recommend bringing your own toothpaste, facewash, and sunscreen if you care about those kinds of things. Those are all things that you can keep during basic (at least we were allowed to). The sunblock they issue you can make you break out, and I'm kind of picky about my toothpaste... but that's just me. It's true, you don't really NEED to bring anything. They'll take care of you. :)

I brought a gazillion pictures with me because I wanted to cover my entire bulletin board with them at the earliest time possible. I also brought makeup with me and a pair of earrings so that I could have it the minute I was allowed to. I brought other random things with me to inprocessing that I really didn't need. Having it waiting for me right when I got out of basic wasn't really worth the dead arm on inprocessing day (you'll understand). Choose wisely. I personally recommend that you limit yourself to one backpack. And don't fill the whole thing up. It's really not necessary.

It is it okay if we bring our personal Bibles?

yes, bibles are another thing you can have in basic.

don't bring anything expensive that they might take away b/c some kids brought t.i. calculators and cellphones and they got lost

What about supplements? Including protein or like vitamins to prevent cramping? Or if you have minor allergies?

****Never mind...this information is in another post (unless you would like to add something)

2012 WILL need special approvement for monitors. It was just changed in the CSP in the latest edition, so it would only be logical to assume that this was aimed at the next class. Anyway, just wait until parents' weekend so mommy and daddy can buy it then!

just curious...

what's the need/want to have external monitors?

docking?
movies?

I have one for the double-screen. It makes working on some subjects easier.

I have had two monitors since parent's weekend of 4 dig year. And as of this year I have a projector. In fact, my friend is playing Guitar Hero 3 on my Wii in my room on an approx. 95" screen with the projector. :) They have new rules on monitors, so current 4 digs can comment better for 2012's rules.

how cool is that ! LOL

wonder why the external monitor has become a problem... enough for the rules to be changed...?

As I understand it, it isn't the monitor itself that needs approval, it is certain monitors over some size limit, I think it is 23" or something. If the monitor is smaller than that, I don't think you need approval for it. Maybe I'm wrong though
