What are some 4 year schools that have decent business programs in my range... my average GPA is 2.4. But I would like to get into a decent college then be able to get into a better school with a good MBA program

Arizona State University.

thanks, what about university of arizona? i would like to major in banking as well

Do you really think you can get into any school with a 2.4 GPA? Even U of A and ASU will be super-reaches for you with that GPA.

No way will you get into ASU or UA with that GPA. and IF for some reason you did, there's no way in hell that you would be a direct admit....meaning you would have to apply to the program as a sophomore or so once you're already there. And trust me, it's very competitive. It's not as simple as "just get a 3.0 and you're in." It's more like "get a 3.5+ as well as some other stuff and you have a decent shot." Alot of kids try getting into those programs.

ok, so would a community college be the way to go then transfer? if i did that, and graduated with my bachelors with a high gpa, scored high on my gmat, had work experince and internships in college.. would i be able to get into an mba school after a few years?

Yes a community college is a very smart choice. get atleast a 3.8+ so u can transfer in the best schools after ur sophomore year, save a lot of money.

but in this post -- http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=211536 -- i was told UNLV and Weber State are in my range.. take a look

Avg GPA @ UNLV is 3.34: http://education.yahoo.com/college/facts/9294.html

Plus, if your not a Nevada resident you willl have to have an even higher GPA to get in.

yeah but http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?collegeId=3959 see i could possibly get in

take a look at the bottom of that page. only 3% of the student body had a GPA at or below yours. And 77% are in-state students, which increases their chance of getting in. If your an out of state student, it will be a little bit tougher.

you can't major in banking, no wonder your gpa is a 2.4 lol

You won't be successful in IBanking with that GPA, UNLESS you weren't trying in HS at all. You won't be able to get a high enough GPA in college to get an IBanking interview.

you guys are being a lil harsh on the kid.... look rob, a 2.4 gpa will not impress anyone... soo the best bet is a community college... go for at least a year a get your gpa up to about a 3.5... now this means working much harder than you did in HS.... if its something you really want and are willing to put forth the effort... you'll b able to do it... soo good luck

now comes the defining moment, my son.

be strong you must. :)

Community college is about the same difficulty as high school, except for the upper end Math/Science courses (if offered), which can be a bit more of a struggle. If you really want it, CC is the way to go. A huge increase to a 3.8+ from your very bad high school grade would be impressive and you can get into some good universities.

farbdogg, there are majors that are finance/banking.. if thats what he means. but yeah what he wants to do is fine. if he actually tries in college, he can do it. because in his other post he says how he regrets slacking in HS and will work harder.. so its possible, he just has to stick with his word
