4 years of foreign language??

I know that most competitive colleges want a student to have 4 years a language. Now, I am a senior in high school and I don't want to take spanish ap but instead take a medicine course. That would mean I have taken four years of spanish but only three years in high school and one year in middle school. How do colleges consider my case? Do i meet the four years language requirement?

thanks

Was the credit you got in middle school a high school credit? If so, you should be okay if it appears on your high school transcript for credit. Make sure that if you don't take a foreign language senior year, fill its place with another challenging course like your medicine one.

I took spanish 1 in Grade 8 in middle school and pre spanish 1 in 7th grade and I know its not going to show up on high school transcript...but I mean I did take 5 years of foreign language.... should i just include that in the additional info section? or is that just trash?

bump bump, i really need to know

bump bump .

Spanish 4 is an AP class here....so I don't know if yours counts as 4 years.

"pre-Spanish" doesn't really count.

sorry if i'm stealing the thread... but some colleges recommend 5 years of foreign language.. if i take ap french 5 would that count? because there are... only 4 years in high school.

I'm having the same dilemma @@ I started out Spanish in 7th grade, so I ended up finishing my high school's Spanish track by the end of my senior year >< (I got a 4 on the AP test) I'm interested to see how this thread turns out >_>

Look at their requirements. Would 7 years of language be a hook?

colleges would appreciate it if you did math, english, science, history/social science, and foreign language throughout highschool. you do not need to do them all throughout highschool because of schedualing conflicts, lack of interest, etc (except you need english and math). i think you just need to get to level 4 of a language to fulfill college requirements. if you want to do science or engineering, it is better to take ap science whaterver over honors or even AP foreign language.

it all depends on the school. If a school 'likes' 4 years, that doesn't mean that if u have only 3 years of the language that you won't get in. That's just one factor. Why don't you see what the schools you are considering want and then ask an admissions officer directly.
