40 Acres Scholarship

Bassoonist here as well, though I won’t be playing in college haha.

Their website has been updated as of 2012.

“For the 2013-2014 academic year: Finalists for the Forty Acres Scholars Program will be contacted the week of February 25. Entering freshmen will be notified if they have received a Texas Exes scholarship by May 1.”

^ That’s us! So we will be finding out very soon if we made the cut or not. Like everyone else I am not expecting anything, from what I’ve read, a lot of the forty acres scholars are very highly competitive at the most selective institutions and in many cases turn them down for the opportunity.

Here’s the link to where I found this information.

[How To Apply – Texas Exes Scholarships](<a href=“Scholarships | Texas Exes”>Scholarships | Texas Exes)

When I said I was notified of being a quarterfinalist, I did mean for 40 acres.

Huh. That makes me nervous. Anybody else get notified of advancing?

Do you mind posting your stats SarahBassoon?

That’s not something that UT/Forty Acres publicizes-- I’d almost venture to say that it may be an internal school of music thing. Many auto-admit students have heard about admissions long before this (and many non-auto admit students as well), and I wouldn’t believe that none of them have received any kind of finalist consideration.

@007math - No problem. I have a 2080 SAT and 31 ACT (super-scored is 2110 and 33) and a 4.0 GPA. I am also a National Merit Finalist.

Obviously, I don’t know if they tell everyone, but I do not think it is a music school specific notification. The email telling me this was sent from the Forty Acres Scholars program.

We shall see by next monday if anything happens. It will be very exciting :slight_smile: I’m glad they are doing it end of February because waiting for all college decisions at the end of march is annoying as hell.

Does anyone know of any OOS people getting an email about 40 acres?

@txlonghorns - I am out of state.

Okay wow congrats! I have similar stats to yours and I was disappointed to not have even made it to quarter-finalist :confused: good luck to you!!

Has everyone still in the running been notified already (quarterfinalists)?

I have no idea whether or not everyone has been notified. I just know that I have been notified.

I am in state and accepted, and I was notified of being a “quarter finalist” (or semi finalist)! So grateful! And I think they’ve done their email notifications.

Have you already accepted your offer of admission? Just wondering if that plays any sort of role in the selection process…

I guess I’m out of the running, too, then. I thought I’d be at least quarterfinalist based on test scores (2250 SAT, 35 ACT, NMSF), but I guess it’s based on more than that. Good luck to those of you who were notified. :)

we are still waiting for admission notice so I wonder if 40 acres is no longer possible. S13 is OOS with 35 ACT, NMF, 3.6 GPA and great leadership in EC’s but application is still in review for Engineering…

Was there a certain way you had to apply to the Forty Acres scholarship? From what I was told, all freshmen were automatically put in the pool of the scholarship. I’m kind of worried that I didn’t even “apply”, haha. I highly doubt I would have gotten it, as I wasn’t even a NMF.

Congratulations Sarah for being a quarterfinalist!

@belibone - Thanks! You are correct - all freshman applicants are automatically considered for the Forty Acres scholarship.

Has anyone been called tonight? The e-mail said it’d be today, but I haven’t been called to find out whether or not I’m a finalist.
