40-(cough)year high school class reunion - please help with dress choice and accessorizing!

I am trying to decide between two dresses for my 40-year high school reunion which is two weeks away. Cocktail hour, buffet dinner, and dancing at a country club.

Whichever dress, please let me know your thoughts on shoes (color and style - keeping in mind I am old and will be dancing!!), a bag, and jewelry.

One item of note on shoes - I would prefer NOT sandals as a training run for a half marathon resulted in my loss of one nail!! Eek! I have these same shoes in black patent. I know they aren’t the best, but I am not sure I can still do a spiked heel with dancing. I have worn them to weddings and know I can dance in them. I am not opposed to new shoes, but I am hard to fit and have dilly-dallied around a bit for an event that is approaching fast.

You look amazing in both dresses! Can’t go wrong with either.

I like the shoes too but would go with black for both dresses, and a black bag.

Keep the shoes. Can’t go wrong with either one of the dresses as they both look great. I would look for a fun clutch on RealReal.

It would help to know your hair color.

I like the shoes with the red dress, but not the black dress. Both dresses look fabulous.

You look fab in both, but I’d pick the black. It’s just a hair more understated and looks more comfortable for dancing. I like the suggestion of a fun clutch. Those shoes work fine. I’d go for comfort.

I am a brunette with some, “Arctic blondes,” which are concentrated around my face.

Both look great, really, but lots of people will be wearing black, so I say go for red. I like the shoes a tiny bit better with the red (but I think you said you have them in black also).

Agree that you will see lots of black. I’d choose the red. It’s a great dress!

Wowza, you look amazing in both! Although my natural inclination is to wear black always for everything…I think the red looks really nice and will stand out. I would keep the nude shoes and accessorize with gold. Have fun!

Both look fabulous.

As others have noted though, everyone will be in black, so red would be best for pictures and not getting lost in the (safe) black color shuffle.

Keep the current shoes if red dress is chosen.
Black shoes if black dress.

Yes, to a fun bag that can fit your phone and a lipstick.

Love both dresses and agree with everyone who says the red dress stands out and that everyone will be in black. I think of black as helping hide things, and you have nothing to hide! You will be a knockout.

I don’t love the heel on the shoe. The dresses are so sleek, and the style of the shoe is nice, but, to me, the heel is so clunky in comparison. I do think I’d like it better in black maybe. The deal is you look fabulous in this dress, and I think the heel of the shoe blunts that sleek look.

Definitely the red and I think the heels are fine. They’re nude, pointed and everyone will look at your dress.

I like the red dress too with the nude shoes. It might give some guys there a heart attack though, lol. I think you look fabulous.

I think the red dress looks the best on you and you already have shoes that will work. I went to my high school reunion last month , but it was a very casual event in comparison. It was a great time. Enjoy! You look great!

I’m partial to the red dress. I think that you will cause a bunch of envy at your reunion!

The shoes are great. I like the nude better as it elongates the legs.

I get it. I don’t want to look as though I’m trying too hard.

I know. I’d prefer a more slender heel, but when they are playing, “Shout!” and we’re having to do the, “and a little bit softer now,”and getting lower to the ground, I don’t want to fall on the floor :joy:

Thanks for all the nice compliments! I am going with the red!

Any thoughts on jewelry??

I’m thinking just earrings and maybe a bigger bracelet? Gold?

I would’ve kicked my shoes off by then!

IMO, the red dress does not look “trying too hard” - that would be if it were bulging in the wrong places, too tights, etc. It looks effortless and simply fab yet simple. Just my 2 cents.
