4th SAT...

I've taken the SAT I 4 times, but only once in my senior year... I'm just wondering what colleges will think of this.

Here are my scores:

1st time: 620v 580m
2nd time: 700v 620m
3rd time: 690v 610m
4th time: 800v 620m

I know this question has been asked a bajillion times, but I'm freaking out since its so close to "crunch time." Will the 100 pt increase and the 800 verbal make up for the fact that i've taken it 4 times?

Thanks.

Taking it four times will be detrimental to your application, especially since you improved quite greatly from your first time taking it.

jer0d

Jer0d~ i think you are being sarcastic, but if not, your comment makes no sense.

the truth is you could take it 10 times and colleges would not care. So in short, no it will not be detrimental

Eh... I was highly misinformed, which i suppose is my own fault. I think my g.c. misunderstood my question. She said the colleges only saw my highest score, so the first time i took it, it was just to see what the test was all about and everything. My parents are from the UK, so I knew virtually nothing about the SAT and the whole college process.

I'm terrible at math but great at english/social sciences, so i guess my SAT score mirrors my grades in H.S.

A score increase of 100 points would easily overcome any taboo of taking the SAT over 3 times, if such a taboo even exists. You should be just fine and should not worry.

there is no taboo... you can take it as many times as you want, and i doubt most colleges care.

Excellent. Thanks everyone :)

There is a kind of taboo surrounding the issue of taking the sat more than 3 times, but you shouldn't worry. It's not a huge problem.

I took the sat in 2002 for summer programs...if I also took it in april of 2004, and november 2004. If I want to take it in jan 2005...will this fourth count against me?

(I've gone up from a 1200 to a 1370)

I read a book by a former Harvard admissions officer who said that it is not a good idea to take it more than 3 times because you appear too test-focused. It is just one factor among many, though.

I've heard that too...what book did you read that in though because I've been trying to locate that...However, I wondering if that first test count really counts for because I took it sophmore year...

I think that if you made significant jumps on both Math and Verbal, it wouldn't look too badly.

The book is "What it Really Takes to get into the Ivy League" by Hughes.

yea well guess what? if you don't raise your score they don't take you. so what's worse? a low score or taking it 4 times? i went with the latter (finally at a 1500).

Thanks for the book, and I've decided to just take it...if I don't get what I want, I won't send the scores.

i have already taken the sat once this year (jr) and am registered for the jan sat. now i probably will take the new one twice...but no more. The 2 tests from 7th and 8th grade better not hurt me lol...1080 isnt too pretty if you know what i mean lol.

i've just heard that college don't like to have you take the test too many times, the lady from harvard told me that a lot of times, scores drop after the 2nd or 3rd time testing, but if it doesn't drop, i think you're okay...
