I am a rising HS junior in California and my school decided not to offer French 4 next year due to budget cuts.
I am mostly targeting engineering and computer related fields in competitive UCs.
I want to continue learning French in high school and college.
Any respected language programs online that I can go my own pace, so that I don’t forget the language?
Should I be stressed about filling the rigor gap in other ways?
This was my junior year classes:
AP Calculus BC
AP Chemistry
AP US History
English III
French 4 honors (cancelled)
Art-Animation
Thanks for the help.
Can you take an appropriate level French course at a nearby community college? You may have to take a placement test or ask the college’s French department about proper placement. In California, HS French 4 and community college third semester (or fourth quarter) French are commonly roughly equivalent, but actual equivalency may vary in different high schools and community colleges.
Does your school district do part of their language class offerings online? For example, some districts use Edgenuity via iHigh, arranged through your school. See if you can contact a language teacher or your counselor for some answers ASAP.
