Hi. I'm going to be a junior next year and I'm still trying to choose the right academic classes to take. Right now, I'm thinking about this:

1) AP Language and Composition
2) AP U.S. History
3) AP Calculus (I'm currently in trigonometry right now and I plan to take Pre-calculus over the summer)
4) AP Environmental Science
5) AP Physics (I plan to take physics over the summer too)
6) AP Bio (although I might opt out of this one and just take leadership or P.E. I've only take 1 year of P.E. and I need another year of P.E. However, I'm planning to fulfill that 1 year of P.E. left senior year.)

BTW, I've only taken 2 years of French, but I decided to drop it because I don't have a solid foundation and I don't quite understand the language.

Your opinion please? Thank you so much.

P.S. My goal is to be accepted into an ivy league (hopefully Columbia) with scholarships as a pre-med student.

What type of Calculus and Physics? AB or BC and B or C (and mechanics or electromagnetics)?

Calculus AB and Physics B. Thanks for asking.

That should be a fairly decent and manageable schedule then. If it was Physics C with that AB, you would be screwed

Were you in French 2 when you quit? I quit spanish after 4 years- 2 in HS- which counts as 4 years nonethless. The problem is that if this isn’t the case, then you will be at a disadvantage for ivies because they look for 3 or 4 years of foreign language.

^ The foreign language part is true, yes. 3 years at the minimum. I believe Harvard suggests all 4 years of HS for FL.

Take PE/lead this year and save AP Bio for next. Unless, lol, you would enjoy taking 2-3 hours of notes each night and then trying to concentrate on your physics problem sets.

But you know, you’re not going to take my advice anyways. I only ask that you cry here about how you should have come next September.

^ Suffer the pain of discipline or suffer the pain of regret

I won’t suffer regret if I off myself now.

srsly, it gets that bad. Don’t do both AP Phys + AP Bio.

Lol yeah hobbithill may be right. But I suggest putting AP Physics B off for senior year, not AP Biology as OP is planning to be a pre-med and not a Physics major. At least with AP Biology he can start reading college level biology texts and do research in medicine during the summer.

Wow. Thank you so much everyone. I’m thinking about taking French III in the summer and then stopping French. As for taking AP Bio next year, I can’t because my school offers AP Bio and AP Chem once every two years. So there’s AP Bio this year and then AP Chem next year. As for AP Physics senior year, there’s no Honors Physics at my high school and I feel like I’ll be bored in a regular physics class next year (I’m not trying to sound like an obnoxious braggart). And TrueGrit, I love that quote “Suffer the pain of discipline or suffer the pain of regret.” Thanks so much.
