Junior Year - AP

I'm currently a Sophomore in High School, and I'm just thinking about what my schedule for next year is going to be. I want to take AP courses next year, but I'm kinda debating on what they should be.

So far I'm wanting to take:
AP Calculus AB
AP Chemistry
AP English Language
AP U.S. History
AP Spanish Language

Honestly, I'm doing Spanish just so I can get myself some nice recognition with the Foreign Language AP. (I just hope I can get a 3...) But mostly, Chem and Calc are the top priorities. I want to self-study BC while I'm taking AB since my county doesn't offer it. Is it at all possible?

Note: I'm also taking regular Physics (because my school doesn't offer Honors for it) and being a Teacher Assistant so I can have an "easy" class throughout the day.

Sounds good, but beware AP Spanish if you’re not a native speaker. It’s supposed to be practically impossible, and you don’t want it to suck up all your time as you already have 4 other APs.

I suggest taking APs you are interested in only. I took 4 APs in my Junior year and it wasn’t that bad. The key is to not procrastinate and to evenly spread out tasks.

If you can’t manage the workload, you will obviously be in a lot of pain. But as long as you are interested in the classes you are taking and have a good work ethic, you’ll be fine. Good luck with the 5 AP tests at the end of the year though. It was a pain studying for just 4! ;)

AP US History is uber easy, but very, very time consuming in terms of the workload, and it’s very difficult to BS. I’m in AP World right now, and I can easily say that the workload for WHAP is about 1/4 that of APUSH. My notes for APUSH for one night’s assignment last year were anywhere between 10-15 pages, whereas for WHAP, they’re barely one full page, lol.

I’m currently in AP English Lang, and I love it - you really should have a strong affinity for the English language though, because it is a LOT of writing… but I was told that if you were to only take one AP class throughout the course of your entire High School career, it should be AP English Lang.

I have no personal experience with AP Chem or AP Calc - but AP Chem is apparently deadly, I know two kids in my Latin IV class who basically spend the entire class complaining because they have double block Chem the next period and how hellish it is.

I have one friend in AP Calc BC, and she has like, a 99 - and she isn’t exactly a math wizard either, so I guess that’s promising.

I don’t know anyone in AP Spanish, but I’ve heard time and time again that it’s really ideal if you’re a native speaker. People who learned the language through the realm of academia have a particularly tough time with it.

That seems good enough for a rigorous junior year

I’m really good in the Math & Science fields, so I figured they aren’t THAT bad. Just English I might be worried about a little in case of issues with writing grammar. As for History, it’s a relatively simple course at my school. (I don’t mind DBQ’s or long essays.) Only problem might be Spanish, but I organize time very well so hopefully it can work out!
